Hereafter, a defendant in a criminal trial in Wyoming cannot testify falsely with immunity from prosecution for perjury. Governor Ross has signed the House Act repealing the law that allowed a defendant in a criminal trial to testify without being sworn.

75 years ago, Feb. 16, 1950

Kane News: The box social given by the Kane homemakers club was well attended on Saturday night. Dancing was enjoyed by the club members and their guests. The fancy boxes were auctioned by Fred Miller assisted by Harvey Nebel, which netted the club a nice sum which will be used to repair the hall. Chances were sold on a cake baked by Mrs. Harry Schneider.

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church held a mortgage burning ceremony last week after making the final payment on the 10-year-old church. Father Angel Ornelas and Dean Pond, president of the church council, performed the ritual burning, and the event was celebrated by a dinner afterward. Among the distinguished guests present for the ceremony were Bishop Newell, Monsignor Carroll of Powell and several former Lovell priests.

Faced with a Monday, Feb. 7, deadline to file liens against AgriBioTech, Inc. for payment on last year’s alfalfa seed crop, more than 100 growers from around the Big Horn Basin gathered in Powell Friday to begin the process following ABT’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing January 25.

Alfalfa seed growers in the Big Horn Basin aren’t the only ones seeking to protect their financial interests in the bankruptcy filing of AgriBioTech, Inc. of Henderson, Nevada. … Six area banks have also retained a Las Vegas bankruptcy attorney to represent them at next week’s initial court hearing in the case. Among banks participating is Bank of Lovell.

There’s a colorful addition to the Lovell Elementary School library thanks to the talent and creativity of local artist and muralist Ronda Schroeder. … Now nearly completed, the mural includes colorful paintings of eight different characters, one for each grade plus one universal image and a theme image.
