The Cowley Progress

The Cowley Gas company is at present busily engaged in rebuilding its entire gas line at a cost of many thousands of dollars. Manager Dickson has a force of men on the line to hurry the  job to completion in record time. Let’s show our appreciation by promptly paying our gas bills. They’ll be needing the money to meet their bills.

Wonderful Wyoming could be more so if more of its farm and ranch buildings were surrounded with shelters of trees, in the opinion of W.L. Quayle, former director of experiment farms at the University of Wyoming. Quayle, who retired last July after 31 years with the agricultural experiment station, has written a bulletin showing the record of tree distribution throughout the state under the federal Clarke-McNary plan.

In 25 years of operation since 1927, nearly 2½ million trees were ordered through his office and distributed in answer to 8,192 orders from all counties of the state. Among the 18 species of trees planted, caragana takes the lead, followed closely by Russian olive and Chinese elm.

Wind Drinkers Overlook, the site for the wild horse viewing area northwest of Horseshoe Bend about two miles, has been funded for $40,000 for preliminary work, Congressman Teno Roncalio has announced. No definite plans have been announced by the Bureau of Land Management for use of the funds, but it is expected most will go for a gravel road to the area and preliminary site work. Preliminary drawings have a sheltered open air structure with interpretative materials to aid the visitor in spotting wild horses and in walking through the nearby Tillett National Fossil Site.

Artist Harry Engstrom said last week that he expects to be finished with the Veterans Memorial Museum and Center mural by this Saturday. The painting began last Monday, Oct. 8, with Engstrom beginning on the flag background. He said the original design called for the flag to be just a part of the background, but Engstrom decided to make it almost the full length of the wall.

The celebration begins with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m., followed by guided tours of the new facility that will take place every 15 minutes, continuing until 7 p.m. The $4,700,000 facility addition greatly increases the amount of space allocated for clinic services and also includes a spacious physical and occupational therapy area.
