Police report: Aggressive dog calls keep officers busy

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of August 24-30:

August 24: 8:38 a.m. –  A dog that was reportedly out of its yard and chasing people at Kansas and West Ninth was put back into a kennel when the owner could not be reached.

4:56 p.m. – A citizen reported a hit on a credit score claiming that the man had applied for a $5,000 college loan but had not done so. No money was exchanged.

August 25: 9:04 a.m. – A Lovell resident brought in a letter from an attorney requesting that evidence the LPD has be turned over to the person’s mother.

7:07 p.m. – A caller reported a dispute between two juvenile boys with threats made in an argument over a bike that had been left in a park for a few days. An officer made contact with the boys’ parents and took possession of the bike.

7:54 p.m. – A male caller wanted a female to leave his residence on East Sixth Street. An officer arrived as the female was leaving, with her car removed from the property, as well.

August 26: 11:01 a.m. – An officer responded to a home on Hampshire Avenue to stand by while a female removed her belongings from the residence. After her property was removed, she was served with a criminal trespass order.

6:26 p.m. – An employee at Family Dollar reported that an older female customer had been locked in the store bathroom for more than an hour and employees could not get a response, also having heard a commotion in the bathroom earlier. The caller then said the woman was out and talking, but no one could understand her.

August 27: 9:03 p.m. – A caller reported that a cat had been hit by a truck at Jersey and West Eighth, but when an officer responded, the cat was fine and taken to the animal control shelter.

August 28: 12:13 a.m. – A caller reported hearing an animal “crying” on Oregon Avenue. An officer responded and spoke to the reporting party and could hear a dog in the area. The officer drove around and found the dog at a residence. The officer made contact with the owner, who took the dog inside.

8:01 a.m. – A caller on West Ninth Street reported a dog aggressively barking at people as they walked past. An officer responded, and the owner was at work. The officer made contact and was told that the owner and his dog would soon be moving to a house with a secure fenced-in yard.

12:05 p.m. – An officer mediated a dispute regarding access to a utility box in a situation where a utility box could only be reached by walking on a neighbor’s property.

3:59 p.m. – A caller asked if a vehicle that had been parked in the parking lot of the LDS Stake Center for several weeks was stolen. An officer ran the VIN number, and the vehicle was not stolen.

8:23 p.m. – A caller reported that an aggressive black dog had charged a family and that the dog owner was also being aggressive. A responding officer found that the dog owner and a man walking past had gotten into a verbal argument. The officer mediated the situation.

August 29: 12:25 p.m. – Four stray kittens from a female cat that died were cared for by a party until they could be taken to the shelter. 

3:50 p.m. – A caller reported kids on bikes and scooters not looking while they were riding on West Second Street. An officer made contact with the juveniles and spoke to them about riding safely.

9:04 p.m. – A report of a subject at the Hyart Theatre displaying inappropriate behavior is under investigation.

August 30: 10:07 a.m. – An officer checked on a building on Lincoln Avenue that the owner feared may have been entered illegally. The incident is under investigation.

7:25 p.m. – A dog owner on West Second Street was cited for dog at large and having no town tags after an officer was called to the location after a dog charged a boy.

The LPD assisted Wyoming DCI with an investigation that led to the arrest of Jamie Rose Sales, 40, on four drug related charges.

Nichol Lee Brinkerhoff was arrested for failure to appear in court.
