Police report: Aggressive dog taken to shelter, owner cited
The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of September 29-October 4:
September 29: 2:07 p.m. – A caller reported that a black and white medium sized dog keeps jumping the fence and acting aggressive toward people passing by the residence on Kansas Avenue. When an officer responded, the dog charged the officer, who sprayed mace at the dog. The animal control officer was called and brought a catch pole. The dog owner was called at work and sent a friend to the location, at which point the dog “mellowed out.” The dog was taken to the animal control shelter, and the owner was cited for dog at large and having a dangerous dog.
10:29 p.m. – A caller on Garfield said someone tried her door, but it was locked. She heard two people running up the street. An officer responded and drove around the area but could not see anyone. The officer returned and walked the caller’s property but could not find anything amiss. Extra patrol was initiated.
September 30: 1:53 p.m. – A citizen went to the police department saying a renter was overdue on rent. The landlord was given information on contacting an attorney in regard to the civil matter.
October 1: 11:26 a.m. – A caller reported an abandoned Jeep Compass parked on Kansas Avenue for a couple of weeks. An officer found the Jeep did not have a current registration and had the vehicle towed.
2:28 p.m. – A caller reported being assaulted at a local bar. Video footage showed the alleged assault to be a minor altercation. A criminal trespass order was later issued.
4:45 p.m. – A caller reported a man filling a water container using a fire hydrant near the hospital. An officer responded and found that the individual had permission from the Town of Lovell to obtain the water in that fashion.
October 2: 6:03 p.m. – A driver hit a pole at the CR Liquor drive-up lane while obtaining non-alcoholic items at the window, saying she can’t get around very easily. An officer responded, and there was only minor damage to the car.
October 3: 12:08 a.m. – A caller reported that a baby black bear had been around for a few days at her residence east of Lovell – eating cat food from their garage. The bear was observed heading west, and the caller said the bear did not act aggressively toward her. The call was referred to Wyoming Game and Fish.
6:31 a.m. – A medium size bear went over a fence on Idaho Avenue and into a neighbor’s backyard. An officer responded but was unable to locate the bear. Game and Fish was called.
