Police report: Babysitter scammed with fake payment account

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of May 5-11:

May 5: 3:26 p.m. – A black and gray dog wearing an orange vest was reported loose on Hampshire Avenue. Officers took possession of the dog and checked with neighbors to attempt to find the owner. The dog was taken to the pound, and the owner later came to claim the dog and paid fines on citations for dog at large and no town tags.

May 7: 10:52 a.m. – A caller reported that he had been trying to reach his mother repeatedly by phone and asked for a welfare check. Officers contacted the mom, and she was fine.

1:33 p.m. – An individual came into the police department to report a potential fake name and GoFundMe account, but the profile had been deleted or closed. She had provided babysitting services and never received payment from the individual.

5:04 p.m. – A woman called in and reported that a man living in the same apartment building had made a Facebook post about her child and that she didn’t feel safe around the individual. The officer made contact with both parties.

May 8: 11:43 a.m. – A caller reported that there was an orange kitten on West 7^th Street that was not doing well and had been severely injured. Officer responded and determined the wounds to be fatal and removed the kitten from the location to be euthanized. 

2:04 p.m. – Officers responded to a call of two males fighting at the Lovell Apartments on Montana Avenue after one of the men was reportedly sitting outside of the other’s female family member’s apartment. After a minor physical altercation, the officer determined there were no injuries and neither party wanted to press charges.

May 9: 8:37 a.m. – An individual called to report a brown, tiger-striped cat that kept trying to bolt into their house on Shoshone Avenue. The officer responded and took the cat to the pound where its owner later came and paid the fines, and the cat was returned.

6:28 p.m. – A local store employee called to report that a male in a white Chevy truck had spit at a cashier and punched the drive-thru window. The suspect was gone when the officer arrived. The manager filed a criminal trespass on the individual for all their business locations.

May 10: 2:33 a.m. – A call came in reporting that a bunch of kids were screaming and yelling by the splash pad at Armory Park. Officers were unable to locate any disturbance.

May 11: 6:56 p.m. – An off-duty officer received a message on social media from a female having suicidal thoughts. The information was given to dispatch, and an officer went to the residence. The individual voluntarily went with the officer to North Big Horn Hospital and received proper medical attention.

Note: The above calls were received by the Lovell Police Department. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
