Police report: Expensive stolen ring case referred to Powell PD

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of July 27-August 2:

July 27: 3:54 p.m. – A caller on Kansas Avenue reported that a ring valued at $2,000 had been stolen, but after officers responded, they discovered that the incident had taken place in Powell, so the case was referred to the Powell Police Department.

5:49 p.m. – An aggressive black and white spotted cattle dog went after a citizen on Kansas Avenue but was chased off. Police made contact with the dog owner and advised her that she needs to find a different solution to keep the dog in its yard and explained the ramifications for not doing so.

July 28: 5:35 a.m. – A caller reported an elderly male sitting on steps and slumped over at the Lovell Apartments. The caller moved the man to a chair, and when officers responded and spoke to the man, he said he had just been sitting outside and must have fallen asleep.

7:32 p.m. – A caller reported two missing persons, saying attempts to call them resulted in the calls going straight to voicemail. The pair turned up later in town.

8:23 p.m. – A caller complained that her ex’s new girlfriend was not handling her son’s nutritional needs well. An officer made contact with the boy, who appeared to be doing well.

July 29: 4:44 p.m. – An officer stopped to check on a vehicle that had broken down at Main and Nevada and helped the motorist push the vehicle to the side of the street.

7:09 p.m. – A car backed into a parked car at Family Dollar. The driver was cited for improper backing, no driver’s license and no proof of insurance.

July 30: 8:39 a.m. – A caller expressed concern about a friend on Carmon Avenue. An officer went to the home and knocked. There was no response initially, but the officer was able to make contact, and everything was fine.

2:15 p.m. – A caller reported that a semi was parked in front of the caller’s property at Shoshone and Eighth. An officer responded and advised the truck owner of the new trailer and semi ordinance. The owner promised to make more room in front of his own residence to park the truck.

4:24 p.m. – Officers responded to a report of a combine on fire just west of Caboose Park.

9:42 p.m. – The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office passed along a report of a maroon SUV that had run another driver off the road outside of town. Police were unable to locate the offending vehicle.

July 31: 4:10 p.m. – Officers assisted sheriff’s deputies with serving a three-day notice to quit.

August 1: 3:51 p.m. – A caller reported a vehicle at Bair’s Trailer Court with doors that had been open for three days. Officers responded and were told by the owner that he was planning to have the inoperable vehicle towed and was working on getting it cleaned out.

August 2: No calls reported for this date.
