Police report: Man accidentally fires rifle in Lovell residence
The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of November 3-9:
November 3: 8:42 a.m. – An officer checked on an elderly female on Oregon Avenue after a request. An ambulance also responded, but the person refused to be transported.
3:42 p.m. – A civil standby was requested on East Second Street for a man whose father wanted him out of his residence and he wanted to collect his belongings.
November 4: 2:59 p.m. – A manager at a local restaurant requested that an individual be trespassed from the restaurant to avoid a conflict with two employees.
November 5: 7:59 a.m. – A man self-reported discharging a weapon at a home on West Third Street. He said he had checked out his roommate’s AR-style rifle the previous night, then examined it again and didn’t realize his roommate had loaded the weapon. He fired one round facing south that went through two doors and a window, fortunately not hitting anyone.
4:50 p.m. – An employee at Maverik reported that someone walked out with beer without paying and that it had happened before. The manager asked that the individual be trespassed from the store.
November 6: 12:20 a.m. – A caller reported that a couple in Powell who had been fighting were heading east into Big Horn County, possibly drunk, in separate vehicles. A male reportedly drove from Powell to Garland without his headlights on, and the female had stopped her car on a main street in Powell. A sheriff’s deputy made contact with the individuals in Cowley.
12:56 a.m. – A woman called a crisis line stating that she took 12 pills with Vodka and was at Maverik. An officer responded, and the woman was taken to the hospital.
11:42 a.m. – The owner of a rental property on Nevada Avenue reported that he was missing some tools that had been stored at the property. He spoke to the renters, who said they hadn’t noticed anything. The case is under investigation.
3:29 p.m. – A woman called from East Sixth Street to say that a pit bull was off its property and being aggressive around a juvenile. An officer responded, and the juvenile said the dog was friendly. An officer spoke to the dog owner about keeping the dog on his property and also advised that town tags were needed.
6:29 p.m. – A woman called to request a welfare check on her sister at Rose City West, giving police permission to enter the residence. An officer entered, but the apartment was unoccupied. The woman was then located in the laundry room. An ambulance also responded, but the woman declined transport.
November 7: 12:53 a.m. – A driver bringing the day’s Billings Gazette to Maverik could see no one working at the store. An officer responded and made contact with two employees on duty.
November 8: 9:58 a.m. – A manager at the Cattlemen Motel requested a civil standby while an individual was being removed from the motel.
November 9: 5:54 p.m. – An officer responded to a report of a resident at Rose City West possibly suicidal. An officer made contact with the subject in question and determined that the individual was not suicidal and that text messages had been misunderstood.
Note: The above calls were received by the Lovell Police Department. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
