Police report: Mental health related issues keeping police busy

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of July 7-13:

July 7: 1:10 a.m. – A caller reported that he had gotten into a fight with his girlfriend, and when he told her to leave, she broke a window and was bleeding badly from her arm when she left the residence on foot. The boyfriend did not want to press charges for property damage, and the female was supposed to come back and clean up the property.

7:05 p.m. – Officers initiated contact with a resident on Third Street for having a vehicle parked backwards in violation of town ordinance, and the owner of the vehicle moved it and parked it legally.

July 8: 6:17 p.m. – Papers were served to a female at the Shoshone Bar and Grill to have her trespassed from the location based on previous altercations with the individual.

July 9: 12:10 p.m. – Parents of a juvenile called to request assistance with their child who had left the high school and threatened to run away. The call was cancelled when the child showed up moments later.

3:25 p.m. – The mom of the previous call requested additional help from officers in getting her son to the emergency room to be evaluated for his mental health issues. The juvenile was causing problems and resisting requests from parents and officers. With the mother’s permission, the officer was able to compel the son to go to North Big Horn Hospital to receive proper medical attention.

11:03 p.m. – A caller reported that a resident of the Lovell Apartments on Montana Avenue was making threats and slamming his door repeatedly. The officer believes the resident has mental health issues and is no longer taking his medication. Contact was made with the reporting party, and information was taken. The case is under further investigation.

July 10: 1:58 p.m. – A male caller reportedly needed help posting on the Lovell/Rocky Classifieds on Facebook searching for a ride to Billings. Multiple calls were made afterwards about the individual sitting and lingering on Main Street.

July 11: 4:59 p.m. – The police department assisted the Big Horn County Sheriff’s department after a mom and dad reported that their son had sent some concerning text messages, and they were worried about his welfare. After tracing his cell phone location, he was found in his vehicle between Lovell and Greybull and checked out OK.

July 12: 12:56 p.m. – Officers gave an outstanding citizen wooden coin to a young girl spotted safely obeying traffic laws and wearing a helmet on her electric scooter.

2:21 p.m. – A male subject reportedly ran away from the Shiloh Tech dorms on Third Street and was experiencing mental health issues and possible substance use. The individual was taken to the emergency room, refused to stay and ran away, and officers were unable to locate the individual.

8:42 p.m. – A BNSF conductor called to report a group of kids playing on the railroad tracks, causing him to have to stop the train. The officer arrived and spoke to several adults and kids in the area, and none of them had seen anyone on the tracks. The officer was unable to locate the suspects.

July 13: 9 a.m. – An individual called to report vandalism to his water pump on East Eighth Street. The incident was a miscommunication between the property owner and individual he had asked to come and fix the pump. When the man came to fix the pump, he realized a part needed to be ordered and left the pump disassembled until the part arrived. It had not been vandalized.

3:11 p.m. – Officers initiated contact with a man that appeared to be asleep in a vehicle outside of Frost Construction. The man checked out OK and informed officers he was just taking a nap.

8:21 p.m. – A caller reported that there were suspicious vehicles parking in an alley on Lincoln Avenue. When the officer responded, no vehicles were in the area.

9:14 p.m. – The same parents struggling with their juvenile son called again for assistance from police after getting into a verbal altercation with him. He was taken back to the hospital for further evaluation.

10:09 p.m. – A woman came into the police station claiming that a male repeatedly was walking up and down the sidewalk in front of her residence and that he was doing it on purpose to her. Officers took the information, referred her to CARES and informed her that he was not breaking any laws.

The Lovell Police Department received six separate calls about dogs at large at multiple locations and performed 37 traffic stops throughout the week.
