Police report: Middle school bully told to knock it off

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of January 26-February 1:

January 26: 3:29 p.m. – A caller reported receiving a Medicare scam call with the caller ID showing North Big Horn Hospital in a case of false caller ID spoofing.

January 27: 4:37 p.m. – A caller reported seeing a radio-controlled car cross the street on East Main. She said she wanted to let police know because she at first thought the moving object was a dog or a young child, which scared her.

5:55 p.m. – A caller reported that a neighbor’s dogs had been barking frequently. An officer spoke to the dog owner, who promised to once again put bark collars on the dogs, which had worked previously.

January 28: 3:53 p.m. – An officer was contacted directly by a caller who reported that the caller’s daughter was being bullied while walking to and from school at Lovell Middle School. The officer made contact with the school resource officer, who spoke to the young man who had bullied the girl and gave him a talking to. There have been no reports of bullying from the boy since then.

January 29: 4:26 p.m. – Police assisted DFS with a welfare check on Idaho Avenue.

7:46 p.m. – Police initiated an investigation of a reported stolen wallet owned by an employee of the Mustang Café.

January 30: 4:10 a.m. – A caller reported three St. Bernards barking on West Eighth Street, wanting to document an ongoing issue.

6:25 a.m. – A caller reported seeing a flashlight in use in the yard of a home on Nevada Avenue where a man, now deceased, used to live. The person with the flashlight was a relative who had permission to be on the property.

9:17 a.m. – A caretaker became concerned when a person the caretaker was looking in on failed to answer a knock when the person normally would have left the door unlocked for the arrival of the caretaker. The caretaker tried again a few minutes later and again had no response but thought the resident could be heard inside the house. An officer responded and gained entry to the house through a window and discovered that the occupant had fallen in the bathroom and had been there for around four hours. The officer helped the person who had fallen and also suggested that a key be made for the caretaker in case the same thing happened again.

9:09 p.m. – Police assisted in finding a man who had created a disturbance in Cowley. The man’s car was found parked on Jersey Avenue, and he was arrested by sheriff’s deputies (see related story).

January 31: 4:47 p.m. – An adult woman called to report that a man was acting suspiciously at Armory Park near two younger girls by taking photos of a group of four somewhat older girls. The caller, the mother of one of the four girls, approached the man, who said the four girls were harassing his granddaughters, so he was being “extra vigilant.” He offered to show the mom his phone to prove that he had not photographed the four girls.

8:23 p.m. – A caller reported that a group of five middle school kids were playing “ding dong ditch” by hammering on his trailer and also throwing rocks at the trailer. Such activity is considered disturbing the peace and is against the law. The case is under investigation.

February 1: 10:38 a.m. – A caller at East Second and Oregon Avenue reported that a brown and white long-haired dog had jumped a fence and was acting aggressive toward people. An officer responded and made contact with the dog owner, who said he would do something to prevent future fence jumping. The dog’s shots were up to date, and the dog did not act in an aggressive manner around the officer.

Note: The above calls were received by the Lovell Police Department. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
