Police report: Officers deal with multiple aggressive dogs

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of May 18-24:

May 18: 3:47 p.m. – A man reported burn marks on his motorcycle saddle bag in an apparent case of vandalism. He said he needed a police report for insurance purposes.

7:24 p.m. – During the Lovell High School graduation ceremony, a caller said she couldn’t get to her garage because someone had parked in front of it on Carmon Avenue near the high school gym. The vehicle was towed so she could enter her garage.

May 19: 3:08 a.m. – A caller reported someone outside her home on Hampshire Avenue. An officer responded and could find no one at the location.

8:37 a.m. – A caller reported being charged by a black and white male Husky on Hampshire Avenue. An officer responded, and the dog jumped back into its yard. The owners were called and said they couldn’t leave work, so at their request, an officer let the dog into the house.

10:17 a.m. – A woman brought a small black and brown male dog with a collar and broken cable on the collar to the police station. The dog was taken to the animal control shelter, and the owner was later able to retrieve the dog.

2:30 p.m. – An officer assisted at the scene of a minor trailer home fire at 49 West Second.

3:33 p.m. – A caller reported a small to medium black and white dog loose on East third Street near the Bank of Lovell. An officer responded, and the dog ran back into its yard. The owner was contacted.

6:24 p.m. – Officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute on East Eighth Street. The dispute was verbal only, but Lionel Coty Brinkerhoff was arrested on older warrants for evading or eluding a police officer, probation and parole violation and failure to pay.

May 20: 10:45 a.m. – A female caller reported that her son had been bitten by a medium sized black and white dog the previous afternoon on Carmon Avenue. The dog was not current with vaccinations, so it was quarantined until it could be checked out. The caller did not wish to pursue charged, but the owner was cited for having a dangerous or vicious animal.

3:01 p.m. – A caller reported teenagers driving recklessly in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints parking lot, making the tires of a Chevy Cruze squeal. An officer made contact with the juveniles, who admitted to the driving behavior. The officer advised the youth that their driving was unacceptable, especially with nearby elementary school students being released for the day.

May 21: 1:12 p.m. – A caller reported a neighbor’s dogs digging up her yard on Washington Avenue. An officer was unable to contact the dog owner.

4:42 p.m. – A citizen came to the police station seeking assistance for activating a gift card. Assistance was given.

5:53 p.m. – A caller on Nevada Avenue said dogs have been in his yard off and on all day.

May 22: 12:45 a.m. – An office assisted the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office with a traffic stop west of Lovell on U.S. 14A/310 and Highway 32. Vernon Kerry Allphin was arrested for DUI and speeding.

May 23: 2:33 p.m. – After a request, an officer performed a welfare check on children who reportedly might be home alone at the Lovell Apartments on Montana Avenue. Their grandmother was watching the kids.

3:43 p.m. – A caller reported that one of her neighbor’s dogs on East Second Street had just killed a smaller dog, and she was concerned for the safety of her small children. The dogs were on their owner’s property, and the owner was contacted while returning from Cody.

5:22 p.m. – Officers responded to a report of a fight between a man and a woman at the Lovell Apartments. The altercation was over by the time officers responded, but they spoke to an adult male, who said a female at the residence attacked him and punched him several times as he was in the process of dropping off their kids. The male showed fresh injuries to his face. The female admitted striking the male, but he declined to pursue charges.

May 24: 6:37 p.m. – A caller reported that someone driving a car tried to run them off the road on West Main Street as they were riding their motorcycle. An officer was unable to locate the offending vehicle.

10:50 p.m. – A caller reported someone was at a neighbor’s house on West Seventh shining a flashlight and looking at a red truck parked in the alley. An officer responded but could find no one in the area.

Note: The above calls were received by the Lovell Police Department. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
