Police report: Scam call: No Lt. Shepherd at the Lovell Police Dept.

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of March 30-April 5:

March 30: 10:37 a.m. – A landlord reported that a woman who had been served a three-day “notice to quit (vacate)” by the Sheriff’s Office was making threats and wanted an officer to see if she was still at the property. An officer checked out the situation.

1:42 p.m. – A resident came to the police station to get rid of some old bullets found while cleaning out a relative’s residence. The LPD disposed of the bullets.

2:23 p.m. – A caller complained of a semi truck and trailer blocking traffic and a business’ garage doors at East Main and Montana. The truck was parked for just a short while and was gone by the time an officer responded.

4:02 p.m. – The police department received the first of six calls this week complaining of a black dog, sometimes with puppies, coming onto a resident’s property on Nevada Avenue.

6:33 p.m. – An officer checked on a situation on West Second Street after a 911 hangup with relatives arguing about a dog and money issues. An officer responded, and the parties were separated for the night.

6:41 p.m. – North Big Horn Hospital performed mandatory reporting of possible child abuse that may have taken place in Montana with the reporting party and the child living in Lovell. DFS was contacted.

7:10 p.m. – A caller from a local business reported a scam call where the caller identified himself as Lt. Shepherd with the Lovell Police Department and advised the business about counterfeit bills in a bank deposit, asking the employee to count all of the money in the money drawer. The department has no officer by that name, which the caller figured but wanted to report the scam.

March 31: 5:48 p.m. – A caller reported a domestic dispute on Oregon Avenue between Fifth and Sixth Street in which a male in a truck had an encounter with a female. An officer drove around the area but could not see the parties involved.

6:12 p.m. – An officer located a medium sized brown dog on Oregon Avenue called in as missing and returned the dog to its owner.

April 1: 1:13 p.m. – An officer successfully executed a vehicle unlock on East Seventh Street.

9:06 p.m. – A male caller complained that a female was constantly driving by his place and yelling at him. He was advised to report and document the incidents, and police would provide extra patrol.

April 2: 8:41 a.m. – An officer performed a successful vehicle unlock on East Main at the Conoco Country Store.

April 3: 7:12 p.m. – A caller reported finding a Border Collie puppy wearing a Snoopy collar on U.S. 310 west of Cowley in case someone called to see if the dog had been found.

April 4: 1:43 a.m. – An officer checked on a disabled train off North Oregon Avenue.

7:39 p.m. – A caller reported a minor dog bite inside a residence on East Third. The dog was current with all of its vaccinations.

April 5: 10:44 a.m. – A caller reported dogs inside a truck parked at the Lovell Apartments with its windows rolled up. An officer responded and discovered that the dogs were being given water and let out from time to time but had to be kept in the truck while they were in the process of being adopted out since pets were not allowed in the apartment. The truck windows were cracked open and not fully closed, the officer said.

7:11 p.m. – The LPD was informed of a REDDI call that was rolled over from the sheriff’s office about a black Dodge truck with a flatbed that almost hit the reporting party. Though reportedly heading toward Lovell, the truck did not come into town as an officer waited.

9:07 p.m. – A caller said she wanted a subject at her door removed from her property at Bair’s Trailer Court on West Second Street. An officer responded, and the subject agreed to leave the property.

Note: The above calls were received by the Lovell Police Department. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
