Police report: Sleeping man on lawn just resting after stretching

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of April 28 – May 4:

April 28: 11:40 p.m. – A caller reported that a white Tahoe was driving by her house multiple times on West Ninth Street. An officer responded and saw the vehicle drive by once before parking at the owner’s residence a few doors down.

April 29: 11:04 a.m. – The same caller from the night before called the police station and was instructed to bring in documentation that she had about the issue to be sent off to potentially be investigated for stalking.

5:29 p.m. – Officers received a call to perform a welfare check on a man sleeping in a yard on Shoshone Avenue and East Ninth Street. An officer responded and contacted the man and the owner of the property, who informed the officer that he knew the gentleman and he has been allowed to do stretches/yoga on his lawn, adding that he must have fallen asleep while meditating.

April 30: 1:02 p.m. – An individual reported that she had received a phone call telling her that her son had been in an accident. She suspected it to be a scam and hung up and called her son who was OK, but she wanted to alert law enforcement of the fraudulent call.

5:08 p.m. – A mother and son came into the police station claiming that her son had been followed by two other juveniles and been pushed off his bike, slapped and kicked. They had thrown his bike and broke the chain on it. The mother did not want to press charges but asked for officers to speak with the parents of the other kids to address the behaviors. Officers contacted the parents of the alleged attackers, who admitted to pushing the boy after he had called them a name. All sets of parents agreed to speak with their children to avoid future problems.

May 2: 10:14 a.m. – A man called from the Lovell Apartments with concerns that the kids in a neighboring apartment were crying as if they were being abused. Officers went to the apartment and spoke with the caller, and DFS was contacted. DFS made contact with the kids and mother and everything checked out fine. There were no signs of abuse, and the apartment was clean.

1:48 p.m. – Cement was reported to be on the road at the intersection of Main Street and Nevada Avenue and at the S-curve at the end of Main Street. The Town of Lovell was notified, and members of their crew went and cleaned it up.

6:36 p.m. – A resident on West Main Street called in to report that a neighbor’s dog had been barking all day and evening. When the officer arrived, he did hear dogs barking. The owner came and took the dogs into the house.

May 3: 3:24 p.m. – Another resident on West Main Street reported a dog barking non-stop all day. The officer did not hear barking upon arrival and spoke with the dog owner, who didn’t believe that his dog would bark all day because it only barks at cats.

May 4: 12:11 a.m. – A man called and claimed that his girlfriend had punched him in the face after they had been drinking for a few hours. Officers arrived and there were no weapons or signs of injuries to confirm the accusations. The two individuals were separated for the night.

8:53 p.m. – Two juveniles were reportedly driving a moped illegally at Armory Park. When the officer arrived, they were already gone and at home and there was no proof they were doing anything illegal.

10:29 p.m. – A woman reported that someone had broken into her grandfather’s house while he was sleeping because his dog started barking. She saw a car parked in the street and thought the young man in the car was the suspect. Officers spoke with the alleged suspect. He was simply waiting for a friend to come out from a house across the street. The officer spoke with the neighbor and watched surveillance footage from their front door camera that proved his innocence.

Note: The above calls were received by the Lovell Police Department. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
