Police report: Trapped prairie dog rescued, set free

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of July 21-27:

July 21: 11:04 a.m. – A couple broke up that resulted in the female moving out of state. She called to report that her ex continues to try and contact and call her. Officers directed her to contact CARES to seek a protection order.

12:28 p.m. – A mother called to report that she had been out for a walk and pushing her young child in a stroller when a dog ran up to them acting aggressively and biting at the tires of the stroller. She claimed it was not the first encounter like that with the dog. Officers told the woman to call if the dog is out again.

July 22: 12:16 a.m. – A caller requested a welfare check on an elderly woman sitting on the ground by the tennis courts next to the high school. Officers made contact with the woman, and she told them that she was just walking back home and needed to stop for a rest. She checked out OK and continued her walk.

1:09 p.m. – There was a report of yelling and screaming coming from behind the Methodist church. The officer responded and found a young juvenile couple having a verbal argument. The officer helped the couple resolve the issue, and the two went to different locations for the remainder of the day.

July 26: 10:53 a.m. – Officers responded to the Big Horn County annex to assist the Sheriff’s Department when a woman who had been reported missing or had run away showed up. The woman appeared scared and had no shoes on. The Sheriff’s office took over the investigation.

4:45 p.m. – A caller reported that a big tree had blown over during a windstorm at Children’s Resource Center and it was blocking the road. The town crew showed up and removed the debris.

8:03 p.m. – The animal control officer was contacted about a prairie dog that was stuck in a fence on Jersey Avenue. The animal was rescued from the fence and released into the country.

July 27: 10:39 p.m. – There was a statewide call initiated in Cowley in regard to a missing/runway juvenile. The Lovell officers checked all major public spaces in town and hotels in an attempt to locate the individual. They later found the juvenile, who was safe and returned to their home.

The Lovell Police Department also received three separate calls about dogs at large at multiple locations and performed 22 traffic stops throughout the week.
