Police report: Two small tornados reported on Road 5 north of Byron

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of July 13-19:

July 13: 10:08 a.m. – Two kittens left in a unit at the Lovell Apartments were taken to the animal shelter by the animal control officer for adoption.

2:04 p.m. – Officers assisted Big Horn County Sheriff’s deputies with the arrest of Roberto Jesus Ramirez Calzado on multiple charges.

2:37 p.m. – A citizen reported possible fraud after applying for USAA Insurance online. He was advised to contact his financial institution.

7:12 p.m. – After a request from DFS, an officer checked on an elderly man living in his car on East Fifth Street while an application for a low-income apartment is being processed. He checked out OK.

7:55 p.m. – Two boys were involved in a dispute, and one boy threw the other’s bicycle light into a nearby yard. An officer was able to recover the light.

July 14: 10:11 a.m. – A caller reported getting someone else’s mail at his home for a couple of years now. He was advised to take the mail to the post office to request that mail to that particular person no longer be delivered to his residence.

2:45 p.m. – The town building inspector reported someone making improvements on a home without a building permit. The case is under investigation.

July 15: 7:53 a.m. – The animal control officer caught and impounded two dogs with shock collars on Doerr Avenue. The owner was contacted and retrieved the dogs.

July 16: 6:34 a.m. – A clerk at the Conoco Country Store on East Main reported a gas drive-off. The clerk did not believe the failure to pay was intentional. A license plate number showed that the car was from Park County, so the Park County Sheriff’s Office was notified for follow-up.

7:26 a.m. – A caller on Nevada Avenue reported a hit and run with damage to her car’s front grill but said she was unsure of when or where the damage took place. She needed the damage documented for insurance purposes.

11:10 a.m. – A caller asked for a welfare check on a child, and everything checked out OK.

12:47 p.m. – A woman came to the police station with a possible scammer still on the line of her cell phone. The caller quickly hung up.

1:20 p.m. – A caller reported someone hooking up his camper trailer to power at the high school on Bulldog Avenue. An officer made contact, and the trailer owner had already been contacted by school officials.

3:05 p.m. – An ongoing dispute among family members on East Eighth Street came to a head when the homeowner reported concern about his daughter’s actions. Solutions were suggested but declined.

4 p.m. – A caller was concerned that a family member living at the care center was being scammed, possibly by an out-of-town female who was constantly asking for gift cards. The concerned caller was advised to get power of attorney regarding the family member.

5:19 p.m. – A call regarding two small tornados spotted on Road 5 north of Byron was noted in case the twisters moved east into Lovell.

July 17: 12:14 p.m. – A caller complained that trash from a restaurant was blowing into their yard across the street. An officer spoke to the manager, who dispatched an employee to clean up the garbage and promised to keep a better eye on the business’s trash receptacle.

3:46 p.m. – An officer was flagged down and told that a black mustang was speeding up and down the street at East Eighth and Washington Avenue. An officer found the car, which was parked by that time.

July 18: 9:27 p.m. – A concerned father said his 14-year-old daughter had left the house on Nevada Avenue about an hour earlier after an argument and had not returned. Officers searched around town for the girl, who was seen walking back toward the home. An officer made sure she got home safely.

10:32 p.m. – A caller on West Second Street reported a domestic dispute across the street at Bair’s Trailer Court involving a brother and sister. Police arrived on scene and arrested Sean Gregory Phillips for strangulation of a household member and transported him to the county detention center in Basin.

July 19: 2:11 a.m. – Officers responded to the Bull Pub in Cowley to assist the sheriff’s office following a report of two males fighting outside the establishment.

11:22 a.m. – A caller reported that he had locked the front door to his home on Friday and returned home Sunday to find it “wide open.” He asked officers to make entry. The residence checked out OK.

12:52 p.m. – Officers responded to a call regarding the theft of a child’s small electric motorcycle on West Third Street. An officer took a statement, and the case is under investigation.

9:03 p.m. – A caller reported a tall man following kids around and acting suspiciously at Great Western Park. An officer made contact with the man, who said he was homeless and traveling to Montana, adding that he was under the picnic shelter to avoid rain.
