Police report: Woman threatened in case of road rage
The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of January 6-12:
January 6: 12:08 p.m. – A party reported receiving a blackmail call saying that if he did not pay money in the form of bitcoin, the scammer would “expose to the public everything going on at the home.” Police advised the reporting party to block the phone number.
4:57 p.m. – First Bank reported a fraudulent check that was likely a scam. Bank personnel recognized the fraudulent check before any money was exchanged.
7:13 p.m. – A caller reported that he had slid into a car on Circle Drive. He spoke to the owner of the car, and there were no injuries, and no air bag deployed. Rupert Mangus, 51, was cited for speeding too fast for conditions.
January 7: A woman reported that a vehicle was driving aggressively on Main Street trying to run her off the road or rear-end her. The vehicle followed her to her workplace, where she called to report the aggressive behavior. An officer spoke to the woman, then went to the aggressive driver, who said he was angry because the woman had backed out of her driveway and blocked both lanes of traffic.
4:06 p.m. – A woman reported being held against her will, but it turned out to simply be a vehicle blocking her driveway. An officer responded and discovered that the offending vehicle had been moved.
January 8: 9:40 a.m. – A pit bull was reported “running around the front yard” at a residence on Nevada Avenue. The owner was contacted and came to retrieve the dog.
10:22 a.m. – Witnesses reported a hit and run at the North Big Horn Hospital parking lot in which a red Ford mustang was stated to have backed into a white Ford explorer. The witnesses said they couldn’t see any damage to the explorer, and a responding officer could not see any damage either. The incident is under investigation.
2:45 p.m. – A brown male pitbull with a red collar was seen running loose on East Main, but a responding officer was unable to catch the dog. The officer suspected who owned the dog, which was reportedly heading home.
January 9: 4:37 p.m. – An officer responded to the 4 Corners Bar after receiving a call about a verbal assault at the bar. The officer found two arguing about money and using profanity. The bartender said there was no need to remove the individuals.
11:52 p.m. – A caller reported that a dog on Montana Avenue had been barking for hours, and the caller was concerned about the dog’s welfare. Several labradors were seen at the location. The owner was on vacation but had somebody checking on the dogs and gave instruction for the person to check to make sure shock collars were fully charged.
January 12: 11:59 a.m. – An older male customer going through the check line at The Market grocery store was observed to be disoriented and weak. He also took a long time unloading his shopping cart. An officer spoke to the man, who said he had been sick and needed to catch his breath from time to time.
