RMMS harriers prep for conference meet
The Rocky Mountain Middle School cross country team tuned up for the conference meet Thursday by running at the Bobcat Invitational in Thermopolis, though a pair of runners were missing from the meet.
Eighth grader Rowan Hanusa was once again the top finisher for the Grizzlies, placing 13th out of 135 runners with a time of 12:58, 24 seconds off his season best time at Worland the week before, albeit on a more difficult course. Hanusa has steadily improved throughout the season.
Eighth grader Cameron Minchow finished 63rd in a personal record 15:33, running two seconds faster than his previous best time in Worland, and the third eighth grader on the team, Grant Weierman, ran the course in 20:22.
Seventh grader Jasper Tippetts returned to the lineup and ran 24:22, a personal record by nearly three minutes.
“It was a pretty tough course,” Rocky coach Gerry Burton said. “This is where they will be holding the high school conference meet. Rowan has been very solid and is becoming a strong runner. He will be fun to watch over his next four years. Cameron also ran a great time.
“Grant looked very strong, as well. It was nice having Jasper back with us. He ran well and is improving each meet. I am quite pleased with all of them and am excited for our last meet in Powell Thursday. We have had some illness and injury but are hoping all runners will be ready for the last meet of the year.”
The Grizz will wrap up the 2024 season at the conference meet held at the Powell Golf Course today (Thursday). The middle school girls will run at noon, followed by the boys at 12:30 p.m.
