RMMS sixth graders pull out win over Greybull
The Rocky Mountain sixth graders and a few seventh graders got their chance in the spotlight Thursday as they beat Greybull in dramatic fashion at home, 20-14, in overtime.
Coach Hal Moore said Greybull led 6-0 at halftime in the defensive battle, but Rocky took the lead in the third quarter when Tripp Hopkin scored on a jet sweep and added the two-point conversion. The Grizz extended the lead to 14-6 when Madden Cooley executed a counter for a 60-yard touchdown run, but Greybull scored on a long run and scored the two-point conversion to knot the score 14-14, sending the game into overtime.
Getting the ball first from the 10-yard line, the Grizz were pushed back to the 25, but on fourth down Ty Samson found Hudson Moore on “a back sider dig,” Coach Moore said, for a catch and score. The Grizz then held Greybull out of the end zone to preserve the 20-14 win.
The Grizz were scheduled to play at Burlington Tuesday, but the game was cancelled due to a lack of referees, Moore said.
Rocky Mountain will wrap up the season Monday when the Grizz host Greybull for the regular eighth- and seventh-grade games at 4:15 p.m.
