RMMS thinclads start season in Burlington

The Rocky Mountain Middle School girls and boys track and field teams competed in their first meet of the season in Burlington on Saturday.

For the girls, sixth grader Tianna Christiansen was the top finisher, coming in first in the 200-meter hurdles, second in the pole vault clearing 6 feet and sixth in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 7:22.06.

Sixth graders Presli Moss and Kielley Brimhall finished 10th and 11th in the 100-meter dash with times of 16.35 and 16.43.

Seventh grader Kaylie Watts took ninth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:25.21 while fellow seventh grader Elle Ganoung placed third in the 200-meter hurdles at 38.84.

Ganoung also claimed second in the long jump with a leap of 12-5.75 and fourth in the triple jump at 26-1.

In the discus, Brimhall finished ninth with a throw of 37-9½, and Brooklin Heron landed in 11th in the shot put, throwing 15-2.

 

Boys results

Seventh grader Dally Malson had a good start to his season, finishing first in all four of the events he competed in.

Malson took the gold in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.19, 200-meter hurdles at 32.57, the discus with a throw of 78-9 and shot-put at 27-5½.

Hudson Moore was the other seventh grader to finish in first place, winning the triple jump by soaring to a jump of 30-4, and he also took third in the 200-meter hurdles at 35.79 and fifth in the long jump with an 11-8 mark.

Seventh grader Brooks Brost claimed fourth in the 100-meter dash at 14.24, ninth in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, and third in the long jump soaring 12-8½.

Benson Jolley finished third in the eighth grade 200-meter dash with a time of 28.09, third in the pole vault clearing 6 feet, and fourth in the shot put with a throw of 30 feet.

Jason Unruh took ninth in the seventh grade 400-meter dash with a time of 1:19.82, 10th in the 800 meters in 3:09.11 and fourth in the mile run at 6:40.91.

Tripp Hopkin ran 3:06.52 in the 800-meter run to take ninth in the sixth-grade division, while fellow sixth grader Will Simmons took ninth in the 200-meter hurdles with a time of 42.58.

Eighth grader Jaxson Sponsel placed second in the 200-meter hurdles with a time of 33.56, fifth in long jump, landing at 14-3 3/4, and seventh at 27-8 in the triple jump.

Tyler Crosby took 10th in the 200-meter hurdles at 42.73 and second in pole vault, gliding to clear 6-0 feet for the seventh grade.

Cameron Minchow finished eighth for the eighth-grade squad in the triple jump, landing at 26-3½.

For the seventh grade, Derek Hedges claimed second in the shot put with a throw of 24-4 and third in discus at 69-8, while Xavier Hetland took seventh in the shot put at 20-4.

The Rocky Mountain Middle School Grizz tracksters are off this week for spring break and will return to action Saturday, April 12, at the Shoshoni Invitational.
