Rockies top Pirates in majors action

The two local Little League majors teams faced off on Tuesday evening, and the Rockies skated past the Pirates 8-2 in five innings of play at the Northeast Little League Complex.

The game was a pitchers’ duel as the teams only managed a handful of hits each.

The Rockies connected for four hits as a team, coming from Kyson Spanier, Brooks Brost, Dane Wilson and Thomas Nichols.

Dax Mangus, Gage Angell and Landen Peterson had the hits for the Pirates in the loss.

On the mound, Madden Cooley, Wilson and Xaden Baxendale combined for seven strikeouts in the five innings of work and only walked two batters for the Rockies.

Pitching for the Pirates were Mangus, Kayan Owens and Brhysan Henton, and the trio struck out nine, but walked seven.

The Rockies improved to 10-1 on the season with their only loss coming to Powell on Friday evening.

The Pirates still have a winning record overall at 6-4 on the year.

Coming up

The Rockies will host Worland on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m., and the Pirates will take their shot at Worland at 7 p.m., also at home.

The majors and minors interleague tournament will be held next week to determine who will take home the league trophy for the season.
