Rocky Middle School runners shine at home meet
The Rocky Mountain Middle School cross country team hosted a meet Tuesday under perfect weather, welcoming runners from Cody, Lovell, Powell and Burlington.
Although few in number, the Grizzly runners turned in strong performances. Seventh grader Ava Weierman represented Rocky’s girls, running 20:10 to finish 58th.
In the boys race, Kaiden Adey led the way with a huge breakthrough, clocking 15:06 for 26th place and cutting nearly three minutes off his personal record. Teammate Jason Unruh impressed in his first-ever race, finishing close behind in 28th at 15:13. Mason Haslem ran his best time of the season with an 18:08 for 53rd, while James Demers dipped under the 20-minute mark with a 19:52 for 56th. Liam Anderson (20:04, 54th), Canyon Weinand (22:21, 62nd) and Jasper Tippetts (24:25, 66th) rounded out the Rocky boys’ effort.
Coach Gerry Burton praised all of his runners for their grit and improvement.
“The athletes ran very well,” he said. “Several of them had new PRs. Jason Unruh ran his first race of the year and placed second overall on the team. It was a great day.”
