Rocky Mountain adds parking, improves game-day safety

Rocky Mountain High School fans, students and visitors will have a little more room, and a lot less mud, when they arrive for games and school activities this fall.

Newly completed parking lots on the east and west sides of the football field will provide more organized parking while making better use of the available space around the athletic complex.

A count of the newly striped lots shows approximately 156 marked parking spaces, with 65 spaces in the upper lot designated for visitors and 91 spaces in the lower lot for the home crowd. The improvements add approximately 50 parking spaces while replacing areas where drivers previously had to contend with mud and less clearly defined parking.

The improvements also alleviate a safety concern on the home side of the field by providing a more orderly flow of traffic into, through and out of the parking area. Clearly defined driving lanes and parking stalls should reduce congestion and help keep vehicles moving in a predictable pattern, particularly before and after well-attended games.

The project was completed just in time for the beginning of the school year, providing additional parking for students during the school day as well as much-needed space for spectators attending Rocky Mountain athletic events.

The new pavement and clearly marked stalls should also make parking more efficient, allowing more vehicles to fit into the available area rather than having drivers determine their own parking spaces.

Rocky Mountain athletic director Tobee Christiansen said the new parking will make the school’s athletic facilities more convenient and accessible for fans.

“I’m excited to have good parking, especially makes it nice on our handicap population having more access to our facilities,” Christiansen said.

Fans will get an early opportunity to put the improvements to use as the fall sports season gets underway. Rocky Mountain will host varsity volleyball games on August 28, followed by junior varsity football games on August 31.

For home fans and visiting supporters alike, getting to a Rocky Mountain sporting event should now be a little easier, safer and considerably smoother traveling.
