Rocky Mountain junior varsity girls earn two solid weekend victories

The Rocky Mountain junior varsity Lady Grizz traveled to Wright and Glenrock this weekend and played three teams, facing Sundance, Wright and Tongue River over two days. The games were played following the varsity games, so some players were able to get time in both contests.

The first game was against Sundance. The final score was Rocky Mountain 43, Sundance 38. Brooklyn Larsen led the team with 10 points, followed by Kennedy Brimhall with 8 points.

Later on Friday, Rocky Mountain played Wright, beating them 42-20. The JV Grizz held Wright scoreless in the first half, building a big lead and going into halftime ahead 22–0. The girls worked well together defensively, holding Wright to very limited scoring for most of the game.

Brimhall led the scoring in that game with 13 points. Leah Haslem added 11 points, Sawyer Bassett scored 8, Larsen finished with 5, Charlee Welling added 3 and Avery Thomas chipped in 2 points.

Saturday’s only JV game was against a strong Tongue River squad, which defeated the Lady Grizz 23–15. The top scorers were Haslem and Bassett with 4 points each, followed by Larsen with 3.

Assistant coach Stacy Haslem said, “It was great to get a first look at our freshmen in competition, see how our sophomores have grown and watch our juniors lead the team. We have a promising season ahead of us.”

This week, the Lady Grizz will play tonight (Thursday) at 5 p.m. in Powell. There is no junior varsity competition at the Wrangler Invitational in Shoshoni.
