Rocky Mountain middle school cagers wrap up regular season
The Rocky Mountain Middle School boys basketball program wrapped up the regular season this week with a trio of dates on the schedule as the Grizzlies prepare for conference tournaments this Saturday.
The Grizz hosted Burlington on Thursday, Feb. 13, and dropped all three games. Burlington won the eighth-grade game 26-16, the seventh-grade game 26-11 and the sixth-grade contest 32-12.
Jaxx May led the Grizz with 9 points in the eighth-grade game, and Tejeo Scheeler added 3 points, Jaxson Sponsel and Jayden Scheeler 2 points each. May snared seven rebounds.
Dally Malson scored 6 points in the seventh-grade contest, and Hudson Moore and Tyler Crosby added 2 points each, Wyatt Blank 1.
Xavier Hetland led the Grizz with 6 points, and Karter Miller scored 3, Maddox Ward 2 and Kaden Baker 1.
The Grizz hosted Greybull Monday in their final regular season games, dropping the eighth-grade game 34-29, winning the seventh-grade game 29-13 and falling in the sixth-grade contest 17-15 in what sixth-grade coach Rod Winland said would be his final game as a head coach ahead of retirement.
May led the Grizzlies in the eighth-grade game with 10 points and seven rebounds. Sponsel added 8 points, Lukas Miller 6 and Jayden Scheeler 5.
Malson poured in 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the seventh-grade squad. Madden Cooley and Moore scored 6 points each, Ty Samson and Crosby 2 apiece.
Ward and Tripp Hopkin scored 4 points each for the sixth-grade squad, Karter Miller 3 and Baker and William Simmons 2 points each.
The middle school teams also played at Thermopolis Saturday, but results were not available.
The Grizz will be off to their respective conference tournaments this Saturday with the eighth graders playing at the A tournament in Thermopolis and the sixth and seventh graders competing at the B/C tournament in Shoshoni.
