Rocky Mountain Middle School girls sweep Greybull

The Rocky Mountain Middle School girls basketball teams put together an impressive showing on Monday, sweeping Greybull in A, B and C team action at the RMMS gym in Cowley.

A team game – Rocky Mtn. 34, Greybull 12

In A team play, the Lady Grizzlies took a few minutes to find their rhythm before pulling away in the second half for a convincing 34-12 win over Greybull. Taylor Grandalen led the scoring with 13 points, while Tianna Christiansen and Elle Ganoung added 6 each, and Kate Crosby contributed 4. Presli Moss, Raelyn Reculusa and Kielley Brimhall chipped in key baskets, while Paisley Malson and Kaylie Watts anchored a strong defensive effort that helped Rocky keep Greybull in check.

B team game – Rocky Mtn. 22, Greybull 18

In the closest game of the afternoon, the Rocky B team continued its winning trend with a balanced effort that showcased teamwork and hustle. Josie Loyning was the high scorer across all three games, finishing with 18 points. Crosby and Lauren Hedges also contributed to the final score. Moss, Millie Hanusa, Alexis Clark, Aliyah Lesher and Paizlee Fisher all played strong on both ends of the court, helping prevent Greybull from mounting a late comeback.

C team game – Rocky Mtn. 34, Greybull 3

In the C team matchup, the youngest Lady Grizzlies earned another dominant victory over a less experienced Greybull squad. Loyning again led the way with 14 points in just two quarters of play. Fisher added 8 points, Katalina Hetland scored 6, Ava Weierman chipped in 4 and Penelope Wambeke added 2. Collins Hubbell, Lesher and Adrianna DeLaCruz all moved the ball well, played strong defense and contributed to the team’s offensive success.

In just six quarters, sixth-grader Loyning combined for an incredible 32 points.

“Josie has a great feel for the game, is super aggressive and has worked hard to be where she’s at,” head coach Taylor Winland said.

Winland praised the entire group, saying, “It was a great game for the A girls. It took us a minute to get our footing, but in the second half we turned it on and played well. One of the things we focused on last week was passing it ahead to the open girl, and we did just that. It was fun to watch the B and C teams also compete and win their games. It’s a great group of girls to coach.”

The Lady Grizz will travel to Lovell today (Thursday) for a 4:15 p.m. trio of games, then travel to Shoshoni Saturday for three games at 10 a.m. Tuesday, the Lady Grizz will travel to Basin to meet Riverside at 4:15 p.m.
