After a season full of hard work and skill strengthening, the volleyball season for Rocky Mountain Middle School ended Saturday at the conference tournament in Basin and Shoshoni.

In the A team tournament in Basin, the first-round game was against Greybull. Rocky lost in two sets to the Buffs, 20-25 and 18-25. After this game, the Lady Grizz were matched up against Meeteetse. This was a quick win for Rocky, winning the first set 25-13 and the second 25-3. The win took the A team on to the fifth-place game against Ten Sleep. The Lady Grizzlies went on to secure fifth place by winning the match in two sets, 25-23, 25-18.

The B team’s first matchup in Shoshoni was with Meeteetse. The Lady Grizz beat the Longhorns 25-18, 25-8. The B team played Shoshoni in their final match, beating the host team in two sets, 25-20, 25-20.

“There is a lot of talent in this group, and the best part is they are coachable,” said coach Lacey Bassett. “They want to build on their talent, not coast on it.”

The Rocky Mountain C team started out their tournament against Thermopolis. They fell to the Bobcats in two sets, 23-25 and 16-25. The next opponent was Shoshoni. The Lady Grizzlies started off with a win, beating the Wranglers 25-21 but took a loss in the second set, 15-25. In the third set, the C team fell to Shoshoni 6-15.

“Our numbers are strong, and the future is bright,” Bassett said of the season. “The high school coaches should be excited about the girls we have coming up. We were a young A team, but they worked hard every day and made real progress.”

About Bassett’s coaching, Athletic Director Tobee Christiansen said, “Lacey has done a great job focusing on fundamentals. It has been amazing to see how far her kids have progressed.”
