Rose City Lanes hosts Doyle Moncur Memorial Tournament
The Rose City Lanes hosted their 13th annual Doyle Moncur Memorial Singles Scratch Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 2, which honors the memory of the late Doyle “Smoothie” Moncur, a longtime Lovell bowler, who passed away in 2013.
The tournament had two four-game qualifying shifts at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Sunday. There were 49 entrants from Wyoming and Montana. Doug Hayes of Billings was the high qualifier, rolling a 948 series for four games. The field was cut to the top 16 bowlers and began double elimination match play.
After all the pins had fallen Josh Hale of Billings came out on top as the winner. Hale also bowled a perfect 300 game during match play. Mike Dotson of Billings was second, Hayes third, Nolan Woodard from Billings fourth, Ricky McBeth of Billings fifth and Sam Lang of Bozeman sixth.
Local bowlers who competed were Nate Baril of Basin (13th place), Chester Gilliam of Lovell, Stephen Townsley of Lovell, Ryan Wells of Cowley (seventh place), Mike Kitchen of Lovell, Brian Bischoff of Lovell, Brandy Kosmann of Cody and Chris Christen of Powell (16th place).
Rose City Lanes/Hot Stuff Pizza would like to thank everyone who came and competed along with sponsors Bank of Lovell, Minchow’s Service, DJW Plumbing and Snap-on Tools. Without their generous donations and continued support this tournament would not be possible, owner Rick Eades said.
