Ruth Elaine Atkinson

Ruth Elaine Atkinson passed away peacefully on January 4, 2024, surrounded by her children.
Ruth was born on June 3, 1945, to Allen Shambaugh and June Lytle in Buffalo, Wyoming, the fourth child of six. She grew up on a ranch just south of Buffalo.
She and Warren “Bud” Carpenter married and lived in Cody, where they had four children, Echo, Keely, Simon and Jack. She had many hobbies including running, gardening and ballet skiing.
Ruth married Donald Atkinson and moved to Casper, where she helped manage several businesses. After retiring, they moved to Lovell.
Ruth was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities. She had a steadfast love for and faith in our Savior Jesus Christ.
Ruth was known for her sweet, kind and loving nature. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and June, husband Donald Atkinson and two brothers Eddy and Denny.
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Echo (Troy) Caldwell and Keely (Lyle) Brimmer; sons Simon (Luci) Carpenter and Jack (Jill) Carpenter; grandchildren Justin, Brittany, Jaclyn, Jessica, James, Juliette, Cameron, Quinten, Hugh, Daisy and Cyrus; four great-grandchildren; sisters Bonnie (Roy) Galloway of Green Valley, Arizona, and Carol Herman of Buffalo; and brother Jim (Sue) Shambaugh of Buffalo.
Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 13, at 10 a.m. in Casper at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1922 Poplar Street. The viewing will be at the church from 9 to 9:45 a.m.
