The Lovell Branch Library will be holding its first ever seedling exchange this Friday, May 9, from 2-4 p.m.

“Many libraries throughout the country have been hosting this type of event for years,” branch manager Cathy Collins said. “We are excited to see how well it is received.”

The library will have tables set up outside of their doors for the community to bring houseplants, vegetable plants, herbs or flowers and encourage individuals to donate or exchange plants.

“Take a few, leave a few,” Collins said. “It is an opportunity to share what we have with others in the community.”

Those who do not have seedlings to share are also welcome to come and see what is available.

Inside the library, a seed library has been added to help its patrons. The seed library contains seed packets for home gardeners and is completely stocked by donations, specifically from Gary Emmett of Successful Gardens, who has been instrumental in its creation.

“We ask that everyone only takes two seed packets per day,” Collins noted. “Patrons younger than 16 must have a parent or guardian present to take any seeds.”
