Shelley Lee Clark Mitchell
Oct. 19, 1949 – Sept. 1, 2024
Shelley Lee Clark Mitchell passed away peacefully on September 1, 2024, surrounded by her loving family after her courageous fight against ovarian cancer.
Shelley was born October 19, 1949, to Margaret Minnie Enes and Evan Allred Clark in Lovell. She grew up there, spending her childhood and youth with her siblings and many cousins, creating fond memories that she spoke of often. Shelley graduated from Lovell High School in 1968, and shortly after, her parents moved the family to Bountiful, Utah.
Shelley met the love of her life, Michael Mitchell, while dragging State Street with her little sister, Sydra, in Salt Lake City in 1973. They married on December 8, 1974. Although their 50th anniversary will be without her earthside, we will celebrate their love and lifelong dedication to one another in her memory.
Together, they proudly welcomed their daughter Heather and son Aaron. Raising their children was their greatest gift in life. Shelley and Mike lived in Fairfield, California, for many years before moving back to Utah.
Throughout her career, she attended LDS Business College. Together with her parents and husband, she owned and operated Dirk’s Dry Cleaners for several years. After Dirk’s, Shelley spent 16 years with JCPenney in their catalogue department through her retirement. In her later years, she worked at Smokin’ Bones in Bountiful with her dear friend, Marylyn.
Shelley was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and Mike taught Primary and Sunday School together.
In these times of remembrance, the family recalls Shelley’s love for family gatherings, her witty sense of humor, wonderful cooking, nurturing nature, undeniable love for her family, forever-treasured stories, adventurous soul and devotion to Bath and Body Works.
Shelley was preceded in death by her parents, Evan and Margaret, brother Jim, nephew Evan and many extended family members. What a wonderful reunion they are all having.
Surviving Shelley are her husband, Mike; daughter Heather (Devin); son Aaron; siblings Jesse (Mary Anne) Clark, Shanna (Mick) Velasquez, Sydra Clark and Jodie (Corrine) Clark; niece Haley (Brett) Backus; great-nieces and great-nephew Chayce, Nayvie and Trasyn; nephews Hayden (Amanda) Clark and Nicholas (Jen) Hoffman; and many extended family members.
A viewing will be held on Friday, Sept. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Porter Lane 3rd Ward, 426 W. 400 S, Centerville, Utah. Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 7, at 12 p.m. preceded by a viewing and family prayer from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the same location. Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
The family wants to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Theresa Werner, the wonderful nurses providing around-the-clock care and all the medical professionals at Huntsman’s Cancer Institute. She was forever thankful for the care received by you all.
We love and miss you so much already, Shell – until we meet again.
