Sheriff’s report Lost Italian tourists get help replacing rental car
The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of May 13-19:
May 13: A motorist who hit a calf on the road near Cowley was assisted by deputies.
Deputies received a report of a dispute over grazing on leased property near Lovell. Those involved were advised it was a civil matter.
Deputies received a report of a drone lost on Main Street in Cowley.
A reckless driver in the Lovell area was reported to deputies, who alerted the Wyoming Highway Patrol to be on the lookout for the driver.
May 14: A Federal Express driver hit a parked car in Byron and left the scene. Twenty-three-year-old Henry Waters was cited for failure to report the accident.
May 15: A driver, who claimed to have had a seizure, rear-ended a stopped car in a construction zone near Byron. The matter was referred to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
A parent reported that their child was being harassed by other children at school. The matter was referred to the Rocky Mountain school resource officer.
The Big Horn County search and rescue team was notified of a missing person. The individual returned home before a search ensued.
In a separate incident, the Big Horn county search and rescue team was called to assist the south end search and rescue team. The individual returned on her own before the search was conducted.
May 16: A Byron resident complained to deputies about an especially loud rooster in the neighborhood.
A hit and run accident was reported at the Cowley Log Gym. The matter is under investigation.
May 17: A motorist hit a deer on Highway 32 near Lovell. The matter was referred to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
A pair of vacationers from Italy found themselves stranded near the causeway eight miles east of Lovell. Deputies assisted the tourists, who barely spoke English, to negotiate a replacement vehicle with the car rental company. The rental company offered the couple an Uber certificate but was notified by authorities that there is no Uber service in the area.
May 19: Deputies responded to a domestic dispute in Cowley. One person had already left the scene, and it was determined to be a verbal argument.
A clerk at Good 2 Go convenience store on Highway 310 outside of Lovell expressed concern about a motorist who was either sleeping, dead or passed out in a vehicle parked on the property. The individual was gone when deputies arrived.
An elderly Cowley couple reported receiving an unwanted nature video that also contained porn on their computer. This is a common scam that usually involves a blackmail attempt later. The couple had not yet received the request for money and was advised to block the sender.
