Sheriff’s report: Suspicious digging involved cactus, not dead bodies
The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of June 17-23:
June 17: Three mini horses were reported loose on Highway 310 near Cowley.
Deputies investigated suspicious activity on BLM land near Lovell. The reporting party thought individuals were burying a dead body, when in fact they were digging up cactus plants.
June 18: An individual asked for a civil standby while he retrieved property from a residence in Deaver. Deputies were not able to perform the standby because the individual had an ex-parte protection order on file. The individual was informed he would need permission from the court to enter the property.
June 19: Deputies conducted extra patrol on Road 2 in Deaver.
A chain locking a gate at the shooting range near Lovell was cut. The matter is under investigation.
Deputies were alerted to a theft of property outside of Lovell. Upon investigation, they determined it was a civil dispute between a divorcing couple.
An ex-husband allegedly was reported going through his ex-wife’s belongings in a garage. The matter is under investigation.
June 20: Lorenzo Rodriguez was arrested in Byron and charged with breach of the peace and battery.
Dan Curtis Banderob of Billings was arrest for DUI, open container and no valid registration or insurance.
June 21: Deputies conducted routine patrol at the Medicine Wheel historic site.
June 22: A suspicious vehicle reported near the Deaver post office was just someone waiting for newspapers to be delivered.
A young at-risk girl was found and returned home after being reported missing.
June 23: Deputies investigated a report of animal abuse regarding a horse in Cowley. It was determined that the horse was just very old and unable to maintain a proper weight.
A search and rescue team was dispatched to help a party of nine people stranded in a boat on Big Horn Lake. The boat and the group were towed to safety by the SAR team.
Note: The above calls were received by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
