Sheriff’s Report: Very large pig on the loose creates chaos

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of June 29 – July 5:

June 29: 1:57 a.m. – Deputies provided extra patrol in the Horseshoe Bend area. 

8:24 a.m. – A caller alerted sheriff’s deputies of horses on the loose in the Byron area.

8.24 a.m. – A deputy removed a box that was creating a road hazard on Main Street in Lovell.

9:52 a.m. – Some loose livestock was reunited with its owner in the Byron area.

3:45 p.m. – Deputies assisted Lovell police with an incident that took place at a local motel in Lovell.

10:13 p.m. – Dispatch received a call from a concerned parent regarding her daughter’s welfare in another state. The caller was advised to alert law enforcement in that jurisdiction. 

June 30: 9:45 a.m. – Deputies were advised of domestic animals causing a nuisance in Frannie. Steps were taken to contact the owner.

11:03 a.m. – Deputies advised a couple in the process of divorce regarding the steps normally taken to transfer property peacefully.

10:54 p.m. – A guest staying at an Airbnb just outside of Lovell town limits reported being bitten by a dog owned by another guest. Deputies investigated the matter and owners of the dog were asked to verify the dog’s rabies vaccination was current.

July 1: 8:23 a.m. – Deputies were notified of a vehicle stuck in a gravel area outside of Lovell. A passerby helped removed the vehicle before deputies arrived on the scene.

9:52 a.m. – Deputies helped mediate a dispute between people involved in a previous dog bite incident.

6:10 p.m. – Approximately 20 head of loose cattle were reported near the highway near the town of Frannie. A deputy notified the owner of the livestock and helped clear them from the road.

8:22 p.m. What was described as a “huge” domestic pig was reported running loose in the Horseshoe Bend area. After evading capture, the obese sow waddled home on its own accord.

10:21 p.m. Loose dogs were reported in the town of Frannie.

July 3: 9:10 p.m. – A small grass fire caused by fireworks was quickly extinguished on Image Drive near Lovell.

Deputies received numerous reports of fireworks detonated a day earlier than the legally designated time period for fireworks activity.

July 4: 10:09 p.m. – Deputies provided extra patrol in and around the Byron Cemetery.

10:07 p.m. A group of people looking to find wild horses got their vehicle stuck near Sykes Ridge. Big Horn County Search and Rescue was notified and helped free the vehicle.

July 5: 1:01 a.m. A downed tree was reported on Crooked Creek Road. The appropriate agency was contacted to clear the road hazard.

4 p.m. – Deputies received more reports of fireworks disturbances, which are legal on the 4^th of July but not on other days.

Note: The Sheriff’s office reported no arrests, major incidents or DUIs during the holiday weekend.
