Sheriff’s report: Volleyball championship celebration annoys Cowley resident
The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of Oct. 28-Nov. 3:
October 28: 2:50 and 3:16 p.m. – Two callers reported a traffic hazard at the intersection of U.S. 310 and Wyoming 114 near Deaver, with the first caller reporting “things” (a pile of debris) in the middle of the highway. The closest deputy was engaged in another call, so the report was referred to the highway patrol. After the second caller reported the same thing, the caller moved the material off the highway.
9:51 p.m. – A deputy noticed an unoccupied vehicle off the road on Highway 32 southeast of Byron and tagged the vehicle for towing if it wasn’t removed by the next day. By Tuesday the vehicle was gone.
October 29: 7:29 a.m. – A vehicle vs. calf accident was reported on Highway 32 near Byron, called in by a trucking company, stating that one of their drivers had hit a cow the previous night. The call was referred to the highway patrol.
8:04 a.m. – One black cow was discovered out on Highway 32 near Byron. The deputy put the cow back into its pasture.
8:15 a.m. – A car vs. deer accident was reported on Road 5 near Byron. The driver said the deer ran into the side of her car. A deputy responded, and the car was drivable.
October 30: 3:30 p.m. – A single vehicle rollover was reported on Highway 14A west of Byron. The driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel. There were no injuries, and the call was referred to the highway patrol for investigation.
October 31: 6:40 a.m. – A driver reported that she hit a deer between the Oasis Junction and Cowley. There were no injuries to the driver, and the air bag did not deploy. The call was transferred to the highway patrol for investigation.
3:09 and 10:06 p.m. – A wandering donkey was twice reported out on the road at the intersection of the Cannery Road (Road 7) and Road 5 south of Cowley. Sgt. Craig Shidler twice returned the wayward animal to its pasture. It is unknown who the owner is.
November 1: 9:12 a.m. – A caller reported a case of fraud in which more than $600 was removed from his bank account via a debit card. His bank instructed him to report the incident to law enforcement as part of the bank’s investigation.
4:33 p.m. – A caller reported a blue truck parked in the road on County Road 5 between Byron and Cowley and the driver allegedly shooting at a deer. A deputy responded and said the vehicle was not parked in the road and that the driver was not observed shooting from the highway but was loading a deer into his truck. The call was referred to the Game and Fish for further investigation.
7:14 p.m. – A deputy stopped to assist a motorist on U.S. 310 29 miles south Lovell who said he had struck an antelope. The officer assisted the motorist with securing plastic parts knocked loose by the impact with zip ties so the vehicle could be driven.
10:59 p.m. – Five black bulls were reported in the road on Road 5 near Byron. A deputy responded and put the bulls back into their pasture.
November 2: 8:31 p.m. – A deputy assisted the Lovell Police Department in responding to a fight at the 4 Corners Bar in Lovell.
9:51 p.m. – A citizen complaint of many teens at the park making a lot of noise was investigated and turned out to be students celebrating the Rocky Mountain volleyball team’s regional championship captured earlier that day. The kids were asked to “quiet it down.”
November 3: 8:28 p.m. – A caller reported hitting a deer on U.S. 14A near Byron. There were no injuries and no road blockage. The call was referred to the highway patrol.
