Sheriff report: ‘Suspicious person’ in Cowley was merely irrigating

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of June 1-7:

June 1: 2:12 p.m. – A citizen in Cowley reported that a person was continually calling to ask for money, claiming the citizen owned money on a credit card they never possessed. A deputy explained the process of dealing with the issue, and no money was ever given to the scammer.

8:36 p.m. – Deputies assisted at the scene of a fire on the side of Wyoming Highway 114 near the Park County line.

June 2: 12:18 a.m. – In a case of road rage, two individuals exchanged threats near the intersection of Lane 13 and Road 12½ near Lovell. A deputy spoke to both parties later, and no citations were issued.

9:15 a.m. – A deputy checked on a vehicle with a flat tire on Lane 9, then called the owner, who said the vehicle would be moved soon.

11:43 a.m. – A deputy investigated a minor fender bender at Good 2 Go west of Lovell after a driver backed into another vehicle. There was minor damage, and a citation was not issued.

June 3: 11:14 a.m. – A caller reported that their dog fell off their flatbed truck somewhere between Greybull and Lovell. Dispatch said deputies would keep an eye out for the dog, a collie-pitbull mix.

6:02 p.m. – A caller from the Frannie area called to complain that their neighbor’s dogs were barking non-stop. A deputy spoke to both the reporting party and the dog owner.

6:41 p.m. – A caller reported that ATVs and dirt bikes driven by underage riders were seen driving on Division Street in Cowley. A deputy was unable to locate the devices, but extra patrol was initiated.

June 4: 10:39 a.m. – The same caller from Frannie the evening before called to complain about a neighbor’s dogs being aggressive.

11:37 a.m. – A repo company called to report that they would be undertaking a vehicle repossession in Byron that day.

5:48 p.m. – A parent on Lane 6 near Cowley called to ask that a deputy speak to her son about safe riding on a dirt bike.

7:38 p.m. – A caller reported that she may have lost a wallet at or near the Cowley Mercantile and wondered if one had been called in. The wallet was found by a citizen and returned to the owner.

9:20 p.m. – A deputy successfully unlocked a vehicle with keys locked inside.

June 5: 11:03 p.m. – A report of a suspicious person dressed in black and using a flashlight on West Shoshone Avenue in Byron turned out to be someone removing a dam from a ditch for irrigation.

June 6: 9:47 a.m. – The citizen reported as being suspicious the night before asked why she was called in the night before.

June 7: 1:47 p.m. – A caller complained of kids riding an ATV around houses and out toward the county landfill.

Sean Brady Randolph of Lovell was arrested for a bond violation.

There were also five livestock calls this week.
