Sheriff report: Big Horn Lake sandbar claims jet ski and boat as water level drops

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of August 25-31:

August 25: 4:44 p.m. – Longhorn cows were reported out on Road 5 north of Byron. The sheriff’s office requested that the county fix some fence that was down.

August 26: 11:23 a.m. – A caller reported keys locked in a vehicle parked at Good 2 Go. Dispatch contacted Auto Plus to respond and open the door.

2:47 p.m. – Longhorns were reported out near the Byron Cemetery. The owners were contacted.

August 27: 8:33 p.m. – Three horses were reported out on U.S. 14A just beyond the Oasis Junction west of Lovell. The Wyoming Highway Patrol was notified, and a deputy responded but could find no horses upon arrival.

August 28: 4:45 p.m. – A woman called to report that she thought she had left her wallet at the Byron Post Office and was worried that it had been stolen, but called back to say that she had found the item.

11:19 p.m. – A deputy responded in an agency assist for the Lovell Police Department in an attempt to locate a male subject who had left on foot following a domestic dispute.

August 29: 7:23 p.m. – A Greybull woman attending the volleyball tournament in Cowley called to complain that her mother-in-law was following her around the gym, stating that she might want to file for a restraining order. The school resource officer met with the reporting party.

Shelley Rae Berryman of Lovell was arrested for a bond violation.

August 30: 2:15 a.m. – Deputies assisted the Lovell Police Department with a response to the Shoshone Bar for a fight that had broken out at the bar.

12:01 p.m. – A caller reported a missing puppy and an older German Shepherd on Highway 32 near Lovell. Dispatch took information in case anyone called to say that they had seen the dogs.

4:27 p.m. – A Search and Rescue response to Big Horn Lake for a jet ski stuck on a side bar was called off when the youth operating the device managed to free himself and was back at Horseshoe Bend.

August 31: 12:39 p.m. – A caller in Cowley reported that her son had reported that a “random older guy” was in their yard taking photos of the sky the night before with the Northern Lights glowing to the north. Told that he could get better shots at the airport, the man responded politely and left the property.

3:14 p.m. – A boat was reported stuck on a sandbar at Big Horn Lake. Search and Rescue was able to take the passengers to safety but told them they needed to make arrangements to free the boat.

10:50 p.m. – Visitors returning to their vacation rental near Lovell after a trip to Yellowstone found the door to the premises open. A deputy helped Lovell Police clear the house.
