Sheriff report: Deputies deal with numerous slide-offs

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of Feb 18-23:

February 18: 2:05 a.m. – A caller reported a semi that appeared to have slid off the road at the Georgia-Pacific turnoff south of Lovell. The caller checked on the driver, who was in the sleeper and was fine. A tow truck had been called.

10:46 a.m. – Deputies investigated a two-vehicle collision at Road 1 and Lane 2½ near Frannie. A 2011 Ford pickup driven by Michael Legg and a 2004 Ford pickup driven by Brian Kick slid into each other. No citations were issued.

3:52 p.m. – A traffic hazard was reported at U.S. Highway 14A East and Road 18 in the form of a broken-down vehicle. A deputy made contact and was told someone was on the way to assist the driver.

7:32 p.m. – A one-vehicle slide-off was reported at U.S. Highway 310 and Lane 16½ south of Lovell. A Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper pulled the vehicle back onto the highway with his truck.

February 19: 5:41 p.m. – Cows were reported out on Highway 32 south of Byron. A deputy responded and was able to put the cows back in their pasture, and the owner arrived to secure a gate that was down.

6:38 p.m. – A reported domestic dispute on U.S. Highway 14A East was verbal in nature, and the two parties agreed to separate for the night.

8:57 p.m. – Horses were reported out on Lane 5½ near Deaver, owned by an individual cited the previous week for livestock at large.

February 20: 7:37 a.m. – The same horses reported the night before were out again and on a neighbor’s property on Lane 5½ near Deaver.

2:43 p.m. – Cows out on Highway 14A West near Byron were put back into their pasture by a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper.

February 21: 12:23 a.m. – A deputy assisted the Lovell Police Department on report of a threatened fight at the Shoshone Bar in Lovell.

10:16 p.m. – A one-vehicle slide-off was reported at Highway 14A West and Lane 13 near Byron. A 2012 Dodge Ram driven by Bruce Martin of Powell had slid into a canal. There was damage to a fence but no injuries. A towing service pulled the truck out, and it was still drivable.

February 22: 10:46 a.m. – A caller reported that his hired hand had rolled a backhoe south of Byron on Highway 32. There were no injuries and no road blockage. A tow company had been called, and the reporting party was advised to await the Highway Patrol for insurance report purposes.

10:55 a.m. – Cows missing “for a couple days” were seen on Lane 13 south of Lovell, having wandered west from the Lovell Lakes area. The owner was reportedly en route with a trailer.

10:52 p.m. – Following a traffic stop in Cowley, Juan Orlando Candelaria, 61, of Lovell was arrested for driving while under the influence with a child in the vehicle, open container, speeding and no compulsory auto insurance. The child was released to parents.

February 23: 3:31 a.m. – A vehicle became stuck while attempting to turn around on the Lovell Lakes Road south of Lovell, with a transmission acting up, as well. A deputy gave the driver a ride into town to make arrangements to remove the stuck Toyota Scion.

4:05 p.m. – A black Lab and a golden retriever were reported missing on Road 11 near Lovell.

Note: The above calls were received by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
