Sheriff report: Explosions discovered to be fire starting for a controlled burn
The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of April 21-27:
April 21: 1:41 p.m. – A caller reported that she was just about run off the road by a semi truck and trailer in Montana, with the truck heading south into Wyoming. She identified the truck as white with a yellow logo on the side. The caller turned off in the Frannie area, and a deputy was unable to locate the offending truck.
1:49 p.m. – A deputy noticed a black Nissan broken down alongside U.S. Highway 14A northeast of Byron. The deputy knew the owner of the vehicle and called to check on the status. The deputy was informed that the vehicle would be moved that evening.
4:23 p.m. – A caller from Deaver complained that a driver consistently runs a stop sign in the community. A deputy made contact with the driver and told her that she needs to make an effort to stop at the stop sign.
April 22: 3:55 p.m. – A caller from Byron asked about the procedure for “trespassing” someone from their property. The caller was given a criminal trespass order form.
April 23: 3:11 p.m. – A deputy spotted a dog loose on U.S. 14A just west of Byron. The dog trotted into town and, once inside town limits, was picked up and taken to the animal control shelter in Lovell. The dog had reportedly escaped from a dog sitter, and the owner was able to retrieve the dog in Lovell.
10:33 p.m. – A drug K-9 was taken to the scene of a traffic stop on U.S. 310 south of Lovell. The case is under investigation.
April 24: 9:44 a.m. – A caller reported hearing explosions on Road 7 near Cowley. A deputy responded and discovered it was someone attempting to get a controlled burn to light.
April 25: 6:53 a.m. – A caller reported six cows with red ear tags out on Road 1 near Frannie. A deputy responded but was unable to locate any cows.
April 26: 10:17 a.m. – A deputy found a white and black Boston terrier at the Cowley Mercantile. The owner was located and the dog returned.
9:05 p.m. – A deputy came upon a disabled car that had hit a deer on Wyoming 32 southwest of Lovell. The occupants said they had arranged to be picked up and would retrieve the car the following day.
April 27: 2:22 p.m. – A caller reported that power had been off at the reporting party’s house and three others since 9 a.m. They were advised to call Big Horn REA.
6:06 p.m. – A caller from Worland reported that she might have lost her wallet, a small, black trifold with a zipper, “about an hour ago” at Good 2 Go west of Lovell, saying that it might have fallen off her truck. The caller was advised on how to proceed.
Note: The above calls were received by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
