Sheriff report: Father and kids swim to shore after paddleboat overturns

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of June 9-15:

June 9: 12:32 a.m. – At first heading to assist at the scene of a vehicle vs. deer collision just across the Wyoming-Montana state line, deputies were called off when they received word that Carbon County, Montana, deputies were in position to respond.

9:13 a.m. – A caller complained of kids speeding and spinning cookies on Roads 1, 3, 4 and 5 in the Deaver area, saying it “happens all the time.”

June 10: 12:08 a.m. – A woman reported that she was unable to detect the location of her husband on a location device when she expected him to be home after fishing at the Big Horn River causeway on U.S. 14A east of Lovell, but then his location showed that he was almost home.

9:20 a.m. – A caller reported that a neighbor’s dog keeps jumping the fence and going onto their property. When contacted, the owner of the dog said the activity “would stop today.”

3:01 p.m. – Having received a no-trespass order from a neighbor, a man in Byron then filed the same paperwork for the neighbor.

Joshua Grisham of Cody was arrested for driving while under suspension and driving without an interlock device.

June 11: 4:17 p.m. – A caller complained that a white Silverado pickup was traveling at a high rate of speed and passed the caller on the highway shoulder just west of Lovell. A deputy was unable to locate the vehicle.

4:33 p.m. – A caller reported a crash east of Lovell on U.S. 14A at the foot of the Big Horns in which a semi carrying scaffolding pipe struck a Jersey barrier, spilling the pipe over an embankment. The call was referred to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

June 12: 11:07 a.m. – A deputy responded to Wyoming Highway 37 one mile north of U.S. 14A east of Lovell to a report of 10 cows out but upon arrival found that the cows had already been put back in their pasture.

12:54 p.m. – A caller reported that a maroon car sped through the stoplight in Lovell and turned north on Shoshone. The call was referred to the Lovell Police Department.

June 13: 4:35 p.m. – A deputy was asked to conduct a civil standby at a home near Byron while a male retrieved his belongings from the home.

8:27 p.m. – A deputy came upon a semi broken down in the middle of the eastbound lane of U.S. 14A about 18 miles east of Lovell. The driver spoke very little English but got his boss on the phone to take information on a tow truck.

11:11 p.m. – A deputy drove up on a pickup broken down on U.S. 14A about 15 miles east of Lovell. The occupants said they were arranging to get the pickup back to town.

June 15: 8:41 a.m. – A caller reported that a dead deer was blocking the highway near the Wyoming-Montana state line north of Frannie. A Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper removed the deer.

6 p.m. – The North Search and Rescue squad was called regarding a father and two kids who overturned while operating a paddle boat in the swimming bay at Horseshoe Bend, but the squad was told to disregard the call after the trio swam to shore.

8:33 p.m. – An elderly woman said a scam caller demanding money threatened to send a hit man to her home. She was advised to end all communication and change her bank account if she had provided any financial information.
