Sheriff report: Frannie man ‘out walking his cat’ feels threatened

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of Sept. 9-15:

September 9: 3:09 a.m. – A caller reported that a male subject was sitting in a vehicle in front of the reporting party’s house on Division Street in Cowley. He pulled up next to the vehicle, but the vehicle did not move. When a deputy responded, the vehicle did leave the scene.

6:59 a.m. – A deputy and a Highway Patrol trooper responded to a report of a “group of cows” on Highway 14A just west of Byron. The officers were able to get the cows back into their pasture, and the owner said he would check gates to make sure the livestock did not get out again.

5:21 p.m. – A caller reported that he was driving a beet truck when a silver SUV with Montana plates was passing traffic unsafely and heading directly toward him, forcing the truck to steer far to the right on U.S. 14A just east of Byron. Deputies were out of position, and the Highway Patrol was notified.

September 10: 9:15 a.m. – A report was called in about dogs running around loose on Main Street in Byron. A deputy was unable to catch the dogs. The owner was identified, and the dogs returned home.

A deputy noticed a vehicle unable to maintain a lane of traffic near Greybull. The vehicle was stopped, and Cagney Renee Hetland of Byron was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, driving while under the influence, driving with a suspended license and having no compulsory auto insurance.

September 12: 9:55 a.m. – After a strong wind during the night, a deputy reported a downed tree partially blocking Road 5 south of Byron. County Road and Bridge was contacted to remove the tree.

12:10 p.m. – A report was called in about livestock on the highway near the Diamond J Bar east of Lovell.

5:16 p.m. – A caller reported that his neighbor’s dogs were barking at him constantly, believing that the neighbor was intentionally allowing it to happen.

5:19 p.m. – The neighbor with the dogs in the above report called to complain that her neighbor was videotaping her yard. According to the sheriff’s office, there is no expectation of privacy in an open area as long as the neighbor did not move onto the caller’s property, but a deputy advised the reporting party to call again if things escalate.

9:22 p.m. – A report came in of a domestic dispute on Beaver Flats on Road 20 southeast of Lovell. The caller stated that her ex-boyfriend had come to her place and had a confrontation with her new boyfriend. The parties separated before a deputy arrived on scene.

September 13: 11:53 a.m. – A caller reported a vehicle vs. cow accident on U.S. 14A on the Big Horns east of Lovell.

3:06 p.m. – A caller reported that a pit bull mix and a German shepherd mix were running loose in Byron and that she had taken the dogs into her fenced yard until their owner could be located.

September 14: 10:59 a.m. – A deputy stopped to assist a motorist on U.S. 310 near Lovell whose car had broken down. The driver at the scene reported that everything was OK and that someone was coming from Greybull to take the person home.

1:29 p.m. – A caller reported that the reporting party’s male Doberman had gone missing within the past hour. The caller gave dispatch a phone number in case someone reported finding the dog.

10:31 p.m. – A deputy driving south on Road 5 near Byron heard a loud hissing sound and noticed a strong smell of gas. The Lovell Fire Department was called to respond to the scene.

September 15: 4:06 p.m. – A caller reported that a red Dodge pickup truck with Idaho plates was swerving into the oncoming lane of traffic. Highway Patrol stopped the vehicle, and the driver was arrested. Two deputies assisted with the arrest.

4:23 p.m. – A caller in Frannie reported that he was threatened by a man while out walking his cat, saying the man came up behind him and startled him. He told the person to get off his property “and never come back.” He said no physical contact was made.
