Sheriff report: Headstones knocked over at cemetery may be the work of cows
The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following other calls for the week of March 31-April 6:
March 31: 8:29 a.m. -- A deputy checked on a vehicle parked alongside the highway on U.S. 310 south of Lovell. The driver had hit a bird and was making sure the bird was not caught in the vehicle’s grill.
1:08 p.m. – A firearm found in the Yellowtail Wildlife Habitat Management Area was turned in and can be retrieved by calling 307-568-2324 and identifying the weapon.
April 1: 11:19 a.m. -- A suspected case of vandalism at the Sand Draw Cemetery east of Lovell where headstones were knocked over may have actually been caused by cows getting into the cemetery grounds since there was no damage other than the tipping.
8:58 p.m. -- A woman in the Deaver area reported that a dog had attacked and killed one of her county fair pigs and that others were missing. She had agreed to watch a dog while the owner was out of town. Two pigs were found at a neighbor’s place. A deputy reported that the case is civil in nature.
April 2: 11:55 a.m. – A caller reported eight big cows and one little one out at Highway 310 and Lane 13 south of Lovell. A deputy was not in the area, so the highway patrol was notified.
3:16 p.m. – A deputy investigated a property damage case in Byron where, sometime between March 28 and April 1, a driver turning into an alley off South Pryor Avenue failed to fully execute the turn and took out some plants and a stair railing at Town Hall.
7:05 p.m. – Six cows were reported out near Lovell on Road 11. The owner was contacted and put the cows back into their pasture.
April 3: 9:09 p.m. – An individual slumped over a pickup’s steering wheel while parked at a pump at Good to Go was awakened and cited for driving with an invalid driver’s license and having no compulsory insurance.
April 4: 9:29 p.m. – A caller reported following a semi-tractor/trailer from Frannie and said the truck was swerving in and out of the lane of travel and had also hit an unknown animal. The truck pulled into Good to Go, and when contacted by a deputy, the driver said he was “super tired” and planned to sleep for the night parked at the business. He also said he had hit a large bird on the Shoshone River Bridge.
April 5: 11:27 a.m. – The driver of a disabled car stopped alongside U.S. 310 south of Lovell declined assistance, saying her sister was coming to help her.
12:27 p.m. – Three large goats were reported out “near the highway” just west of Cowley. The owner was contacted, but a deputy put the goats back where they belonged.
April 6: 8:16 a.m. – A caller reported a missing chocolate Lab/German shorthair pointer cross with white spots on the chest in case anyone called in saying they found a dog.
Arrests: Jacob John Rooney of Lovell was arrested April 2 on a warrant for a probation violation.
Richard Patrick Coppenbarger was arrested April 6 for failure to appear.
