Sheriff report: Horses, cows and blue heelers loose in North Big Horn County
The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of Feb 11-16:
February 11: 12:18 a.m. – A woman came to the annex following a verbal domestic dispute with her husband. The two were separated for the night, and a deputy gave the woman a ride to another location.
2:31 a.m. – A deputy checked on a report of a one-vehicle slide-off between Road 10.5 and Road 11 on Lane 11. The young people in the vehicle said their dad was coming to pull them out. There was no damage.
10:58 a.m. – A deputy stopped to assist a motorist who was parked alongside U.S. 14A-310 just west of Lovell with transmission troubles. A driver said his buddy was on his way to tow him.
1:19 p.m. – A caller reported a semi driving with a flat tire and throwing up debris while traveling on U.S. 14A west of Byron. By the time the call was received, the truck had passed into Park County.
3:41 p.m. – A Cowley resident reported seeing footprints encircling her home, and she was worried someone was trying to look in her windows. A deputy planned to provide extra patrol at the location.
February 12: 7:07 a.m. -- A caller reported horses on his property in Deaver. Contact was made with the owner of the horses, who agreed to come take them back home.
12:08 p.m. – A woman from Byron reported that her Facebook account had been hacked by someone in Nigeria and she was locked out of her business page. She was advised to get a new email address and set up a new Facebook account.
February 13: 3:49 and 7:18 p.m. – Multiple calls came in reporting two blue heelers running along U.S. 31O south of Lovell chasing vehicles as they pass. There is no county ordinance regarding dogs at large.
February 14: 1:30 p.m. – A deputy investigated a fender bender in Cowley in which two vehicles – a silver Honda Accord and a white Ford F150 -- slid into each other at an intersection due to icy streets. The crash is under investigation.
2:09 p.m. – A resident of Minnesota who owns property in the Lovell area said he had been contacted by a realtor in Cody saying that someone was trying to list the caller’s property for sale, but neither the caller nor his wife had made any arrangements with a realtor. The case is under investigation, and the owner of the property was sending information for follow-up.
8:46 p.m. – A white 2004 Pontiac Bonneville with Montana plates that had expired in 2022 was tagged after being found parked on the shoulder of Highway 32 between Byron and Emblem.
February 15: 6:36 p.m. – Cows were reported out along U.S. 310 north of Frannie near the Montana state line.
6:57 p.m. – A cow was hit and injured and had to be put down along U.S. 310 north of Frannie. The adjacent landowner said he would work on a fence so the cows wouldn’t get out in the future.
February 16: 8:33 a.m. – In a recurring issue between neighbors in Deaver, horses were reported out on a resident’s property again, and the owner of the horses was cited for livestock at large.
Aubry Jolley of Lovell was booked February 10 on a charge of theft. The case is under investigation.
Note: The above calls were received by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
