Sheriff report: Horses out at Rocky Mountain Middle/High School returned home

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of December 9-14:

December 9: 6:29 and 8:35 a.m. – Five horses were reported loose in front of the middle/high school in Cowley. The owner arrived to trailer the horses home.

8:48 a.m. – A caller reported that the door to the ATM at the self-service Big Horn Co-op fuel station on the east side of Byron was open. The caller was informed that the ATM had been damaged due to a crash on December 7, was now empty and there was nothing to worry about.

10:53 a.m. – Two dogs were reported running down the highway northeast of Byron on U.S. 14A. There is no county dog-at-large ordinance, so “there’s nothing we can do,” a sheriff’s spokesman said.

5:10 p.m. – A sparking power pole was reported at the Lovell Community Center. The Lovell Fire Department responded and contacted the power company.

December 10: 9:33 a.m. – A caller reported someone knocking on their window in Byron. It was just a friend asking to be let in.

11:53 a.m. – A truck and trailer parked for more than three days on a Byron street was in violation of a town ordinance. The owner moved the truck and trailer.

1:15 p.m. – A deputy assisted a woman who fell on Oregon Avenue in Lovell. She said she had tripped on a curb and was OK but just needed help getting up.

5:12 p.m. – A traffic complaint referred to a white Dodge truck failing to maintain a lane of travel in Garland and heading east. The truck could not be located.

December 11: 10:50 a.m. – A deputy checked out a locked vehicle parked near the airport north of Cowley and planned to check on the vehicle again later.

5:11 p.m. – A caller reported that someone had been stealing gravel on property off Wyoming Highway 32 south of Byron, but an investigation found that the property owner had given permission.

December 12: 8:06 p.m. – A report of a road sign down at Road 11 and Lane 13 near Lovell was referred to County Road and Bridge, which was obtaining a replacement sign.

December 13: 1:52 p.m. – A caller reported that the door on the Byron Post Office was unlocked. The postmistress was contacted and secured the door. Nothing had been disturbed.

7:07 p.m. – Nervous about the ongoing search for fugitive Anthony Pease, a caller said he was to take care of a neighbor’s house and asked a deputy to clear the residence before he entered. The house was cleared.

9:25 p.m. – A report of a suspicious vehicle parked at the Kane Cemetery east of Lovell was just residents “out and about” with their dog.

December 14: 9:23 a.m. – A dead antelope was reported on Highway 310 about five miles south of Lovell. The Wyoming Highway Patrol was notified.

11:42 a.m. – A caller reported two dogs lost about two hours earlier on Road 7½ near Cowley — a black mouth cur with a blue mask around the eyes and a German shepherd wearing a purple collar.

There were six other dog calls, two cow calls and one loose chicken call during the week.

Note: The above calls were received by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
