Sheriff report: Man denies firing shots at neighbor’s dog across a county road near Deaver

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of Nov. 11-17:

November 11: 3:06 p.m. – An abandoned vehicle was tagged on Lane 6 near Deaver. It was gone by the next day.

4:11 p.m. – A red tractor trailer with Florida plates was reported as failing to maintain a lane of travel heading south from Lovell on U.S. 310. Greybull PD and the Wyoming Highway Patrol were notified, and the highway patrol stopped the vehicle in Greybull.

7:17 p.m. – A father called in to report a truck vs. deer collision after his son arrived home after having struck a deer on U.S. 14A east of Lovell. The report was referred to the highway patrol.

November 12: 7:44 a.m. – A deputy reported removing a dead deer off the highway at mile post 104 on Highway 32 near Lovell.

November 13: 7:28 a.m. – A driver approaching U.S. 14A on County Road 15 east of Lovell slid through a stop sign on an icy approach and collided with a semi traveling on the highway. A highway patrol trooper was in the immediate area and was able to respond quickly.

11:15 a.m. – A two-vehicle collision was reported at the Lovell High School parking lot. The incident is under investigation.

12:51 p.m. – A white truck was reported “speeding around a corner really fast” in Cowley. A sheriff’s department sergeant made contact with the driver, a high school student, and spoke with him about his driving behavior.

November 14: Dulcie Kate VanVoorhis of Manderson was arrested in Basin for bond violation, failure to register as a sex offender and residing within 1,000 feet of a school.

November 15: 5:59 a.m. – A buck deer was reported as being injured and unable get up alongside the highway on U.S. 14A east of Lovell, but both a deputy and a highway trooper were unable to locate the animal.

8:23 a.m. – A woman called to say her neighbor was firing shots at her dogs across a county road near Deaver. A deputy made contact with the shooter, who denied firing across a road and said the dogs were on his property so he shot into the ground to get them to leave.

November 16: 1:46 a.m. – A deputy assisted the Lovell Police Department at the scene of a party on West Main in Lovell at which several juveniles were discovered to be drinking. Multiple citations for minor in possession were issued.

12:43 p.m. – A crash with property damage was reported at 467 Lane 9 west of Cowley. A vehicle had gone through a fence and had left the scene. A deputy collected parts of a vehicle left behind, and the incident is under investigation. 

Note: The above calls were received by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
