Sheriff report: Mountain lion spotted on highway to Cowley

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of Jan. 27-31:

January 27: 3:46 p.m. – A deputy performed a civil standby as a power company employee performed maintenance on power equipment at a residence.

4:02 p.m. – A report of livestock on the highway on Road 9 near Wyo-Ben was rolled over to the Wyoming Highway Patrol because there were no deputies in the area.

January 28: 10:14 a.m. – A caller sought information about livestock laws and what she could do about her neighbor’s sheep getting onto her property. According to a Sheriff’s Dept. spokesman, the caller was told she could run them off if needed. She also expressed concern about the neighbor’s livestock protection dogs threatening her or her dogs and was told she has the right to protect herself and her dogs from aggressive animals on her property.

January 29: 9:53 a.m. – A deputy in Byron assisted in a case where a German shepherd dog was hit and killed on Main Street and the owner was driving around looking for the pet as well as a smaller dog, which the deputy was attempting to catch. The dog that had been struck had no tags, and a spokesman said it is important for pet owners to put a tag on a dog in case a deputy must look for the owner.

5:32 p.m. – A caller reported that a mountain lion crossed in front of his truck near one of the highway bridges as he was driving between the Oasis Junction and Cowley. The call was referred to the Game and Fish.

January 30: 12:04 p.m. -- A caller reported a “very friendly” black lab running loose in Deaver. She said she was going to hold the dog at her home in case anyone called looking for the dog.

January 31: 9:46 p.m. – A requested welfare check on a female at an establishment in Deaver who seemed upset turned out to be that she had simply had had a fight with her boyfriend and everything was fine.

Glynn Collins of Lovell was arrested January 30 for a bond violation.

Note: The above calls were received by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
