Sheriff report: Numerous abandoned vehicles reported

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of Dec. 2-8:

December 2: 4:58 p.m. – A vehicle was parked along the highway on Wyoming Highway 32 at Road 7.5 near Lovell for two days. The vehicle was gone by the next day.

December 3: 4:03 p.m. – A deputy discovered a bull out of its pasture just north of Byron on Center Street. The owner was contacted and retrieved the animal.

5:34 p.m. – A caller reported their own pickup parked alongside the highway on U.S. 310 near Deaver, saying the truck had broken down but the owner was planning to come and get it.

6:35 p.m. – A Deaver resident suspected that someone was messing with his vehicle using a tracking device or sabotage. He was knocking on doors to see if anyone had video of the incident. Two deputies responded and informed the man that nobody was required to provide him with video without a court order.

December 4: 12:09 a.m. – A deputy noticed a black and silver Pontiac Grand Am parked across the highway from Good2Go just west of Lovell. When contacted, the owner said the vehicle had developed a mechanical issue. It was later removed.

2:01 p.m. – A caller reported that cows being moved on U.S. 14A east of Lovell had taken out his mailbox. The caller said he had already contacted the owner of the cattle, who promised to repair the mailbox, but he wanted to express a general concern about the safety aspects of moving cattle down a major highway.

4:39 p.m. – A car reported as possibly abandoned alongside U.S. 14A just west of the Oasis Junction turned out to be a car parked for carpooling to Powell.

December 5: 3:37 p.m. – Cows reported out on U.S. 310 south of Lovell near the Lovell Lakes were already being moved by their owner.

December 6: 4:38 p.m. -- A car was reported as abandoned on Road 6.5 near Byron, but it was just parked while the owner went for a run.

December 8: 10:02 a.m. – “Twelvish” cows were out of their pasture on U.S. 14A west of  Byron near Lincoln Rock. They were right at the Park County line, and the Wyoming Highway Patrol was notified.
