Sheriff report: Senior center meal volunteer bitten by dog

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of January 12-18:

January 12: 3:49 p.m. – A motorist picked up a long-haired grey dog between Deaver and Frannie and took it to the animal control shelter in Lovell.

January 13: 10:12 a.m. – A deputy provided escort for 140 head of cattle being moved on Wyoming Highway 32 south of Lovell.

3:51 p.m. – A deputy removed a traffic hazard a mile and a half southeast of Cowley on U.S. 310 in the form of trash in the highway.

January 14: 3:27 a.m. – A dog said to be chronically running around town in Cowley was reported on South Division – out once again.

3:44 p.m. – A vehicle driven by a Rocky Mountain High School senior was struck by his girlfriend’s car at the school. Attempts were made to reconcile the matter privately, but the incident is under investigation.

January 15: A school resource officer driving on U.S. 310 west of Cowley assisted a motorist fixing a flat tire, then proceeded to work in Cowley.

11:55 a.m. – An official from the North Big Horn Senior Center reported that a volunteer delivering meals was bitten by a dog in the Lovell area. The incident was under investigation as to whether the dog had a current rabies vaccination.

3:33 p.m. – During high winds in the area, a caller reported that a greens tarp at the Foster Gulch Golf Course had blown onto the highway on Lane 13 at the golf course, partially blocking the road. A passerby attempted to move the tarp but was nearly drug by the strong wind.

January 16: 4:03 a.m. – A REDDI report was called in for a vehicle on the Lovell Lakes Road. A deputy was unable to locate the vehicle.

6:29 p.m. – A caller complained that a red Nissan was swerving shoulder to shoulder and traveling at 90 to 100 miles per hour about five miles west of Byron on U.S. 14A. A deputy was unable to locate the vehicle.

9:20 p.m. – A deputy followed a suspicious vehicle in Byron without lights and ran the plate. When the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed, the deputy activated the patrol car lights and initiated a traffic stop. A 25-year-old male was issued citations for various traffic violations including driving without a valid license.

January 18: 4:30 p.m. – A deputy put a wayward cow back into its pasture on the Cannery Road near Cowley.

Note: The above calls were received by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
