Sheriff report: Slippery roads lead to multiple slide-offs
The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of December 1-7:
December 1: 10:03 a.m. – A deputy assisted a citizen with a fraudulent toll bill out of Colorado, calling the State of Colorado to clear the matter up since the citizen had not been there.
11:11 a.m. – A landlord in Frannie cleaning out a rental property reported finding possible drug paraphernalia.
Cara Marie Thompson of Cowley was issued a summons to appear in court in Basin on charges of DUI and interference with a peace officer from an earlier incident.
December 2: 7:18 a.m. – A caller reported that their golden colored fox trotter was lost, but within a minute of making the call, the horse was found.
4:19 p.m. – The Wyoming Highway Patrol referred a complaint about a pickup pulling a flatbed trailer on Wyoming 32 about 2½ miles north of the Willwood turnoff. The caller simply reported that the trailer had no plates.
December 3: 8:41 a.m. -- Dispatch was notified that Road 6 was closed due to a project to install a water line across the road. The road was reopened on the morning of December 4.
10:37 a.m. – The owners of a missing German shorthair pointer named Gunner that was lost on Thanksgiving in the Yellowtail Wildlife Habitat Area reported that the dog was still missing.
12:42 p.m. – The Wyoming Highway Patrol referred a call about dogs running loose on U.S. 14A just northeast of Byron.
4:22 p.m. – A caller reported a car parked alongside the old school, now private property, in Byron for “a long time.” The owner was contacted by the property owner and told to move the car or it would be towed. The car was moved down the street.
5:32 p.m. – After a car hit a dog on Main Street in Byron, the dog ran behind a residence, and a deputy informed the owners of the incident so they could look for the injured dog.
Rodney Wade Armstrong of Lovell was arrested on a probation violation.
December 5: 12:10 p.m. – An SUV northbound on Road 11 slid through a stop sign at Lane 13 due to slick conditions and a downhill grade, colliding with a sedan that was eastbound on Lane 13. There was only minor damage and no ambulance response needed. No citations were issued due to the conditions.
December 6: 7 a.m. – The Wyoming Highway Patrol notified dispatch about a complaint regarding a vehicle heading north near Frannie, but by the time the call came in, the vehicle was in Montana.
Thomas Robert Bryan of Lovell was arrested for DUI and driving with non-functioning taillights.
December 7: 7:12 a.m. – A report came in about a Freightliner semi lying on its side on U.S. 310 in Deaver. The report said the driver was walking around apparently uninjured. The Wyoming Highway Patrol investigated the crash. WYDOT was asked to sand the highway at that location.
8:10 a.m. – Another vehicle slid off the highway in Deaver. There was no property damage.
10:13 a.m. – A caller reported that a vehicle had spun out and slid off the road between Cowley and the Oasis Junction. The Highway Patrol was to investigate.
11:33 a.m. – A caller reported following a semi pulling an empty flatbed trailer speeding through Lovell. The Highway Patrol was advised.
4:06 p.m. – Deputies assisted at the scene of a one-vehicle crash in Byron where a black 2022 Toyota 4-Runner left the highway coming into Byron from the east and struck a Big Horn Federal ATM building at the Big Horn Co-op self-serve gas pumps, spinning it 90 degrees clockwise. The driver, Tami Asay of Byron, according to relatives, was transported to North Big Horn Hospital and life-flighted to Billings. The Toyota suffered major damage, and three dogs were also removed from the vehicle.
