Sheriff report: Swimming bear tries to hop aboard boat

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of August 3-9:

August 3: 8:36 a.m. – A deputy removed a piece of plywood from the road on Highway 32 south of Byron.

August 4: 3:52 a.m. – A deputy checked on an unoccupied vehicle 15 miles south of Byron on Highway 32. The vehicle was well off the road.

12:25 p.m. – An individual came to the annex in Lovell requesting to speak with a deputy to report that someone wants him to purchase a firearm for them, which is illegal. He was able to speak with a deputy.

4:03 p.m. – A woman on East Shoshone in Byron reported that her kids told her a man was making threats to them in town. A deputy spoke to the man, who said he was indeed upset because the kids were throwing rocks at his house and damaging his siding. He said he did yell at the kids. Both the kids and the man were advised to avoid each other.

Keisha Ann Cahill was arrested on a warrant for probation revocation and a hold order from another ageny.

August 5: 4:58 p.m. – A caller asked if he could take possession of a car that was tagged as abandoned. He was told no. Only the registered owner can claim the car.

7:01 p.m. – A report of shots fired in Frannie was referred to the Park County Sheriff’s Office because the reported incident took place on the Park County side of the town.

10:47 p.m. – A deputy removed wood from the road on West Main in Lovell.

August 6: 8:54 a.m. – A deputy responded to the eastern edge of Lovell when a caller reported hitting a deer, which the caller said was still alive. When the deputy arrived, neither the car nor the deer were at the location, but a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper was able to speak to the driver.

2:14 p.m. – A citizen reported that packages for their house were frequently delivered to a neighbor’s address. A deputy advised that the person may want to put better signage and better address numbers at their house.

4:14 p.m. – A report of a semi leaking water and overheating atop the Big Horns on U.S. 14A 28 miles east of Lovell was referred to the highway patrol.

6:32 p.m. – A deputy assisted at the scene of a controlled burn out of control on Road 7 near Cowley.

9:20 p.m. – A deputy assisted at the scene of a second controlled burn out of control on U.S. 14A West near the Park County line. Park County Fire was on scene, and the Lovell Fire Department was on the way to assist.

August 7: 6:49 p.m. – A report of a badger seen on East Third North in Cowley was referred to the Wyoming Game and Fish Dept.

August 8: 9:57 a.m. – A caller reported that an aggressive bear was trying to get onto their boat on Big Horn Lake in Montana. They were able to get away from the swimming bear.

1:19 p.m. – A deputy checked on an unoccupied vehicle two miles west of Cowley on U.S. 310.

August 9: 7:43 p.m. – A caller said she was getting threatening texts from a family friend. She said she wanted to document the texts.

10:31 p.m. – A caller expressed concern that a person who had been trespassed from their property was possibly coming back into the area.

Note: The above calls were received by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
