Sheriff report: Traffic complaints keep deputies hopping

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of July 27-August 2:

July 27: 6:24 p.m. – A caller from Frannie complained that a FedEx driver always drives too fast by their residence and requested extra patrol. A deputy knows the driver and said he would speak to him.

July 28: 1:03 p.m. – A deputy helped a rancher put cows back into a field.

2:48 p.m. – Deputies responded to the scene of a roadside fire on U.S. 14A west of Byron near the Park County line. A semi sparked a fire that got into cattails. The blaze was extinguished by the Lovell Volunteer Fire Dept.

5:07 p.m. – A caller reported a black newer Ford Bronco speeding and almost hitting a semi while passing vehicles “left and right” near Blue Hill south of Lovell on U.S. 310. The reporting party waited to call until arriving home but did obtain a license plate number. The Sheriff’s Office ran the plates, and a deputy spoke to a Lovell male about his driving.

July 29: 12:38 p.m. – A deputy responded to a civil matter in Byron, finding that the call regarded a male trying to move out of a house. There was no physical altercation, but deputies were called to the same location several more times during the week.

4:36 p.m. – A man was found passed out in the middle of Main Street. A deputy checked on him and helped him out of the lane of traffic. An ambulance was called, but he refused transport to the hospital.

7:09 p.m. – A deputy removed wood from the middle of the highway on Wyoming 32 south of Byron.

9:13 p.m. – A deputy responded with the fire department to a power pole on fire on Road 7 near Lovell. Big Horn REA was called, as well.

11:10 p.m. – A caller reported horses on the highway south of Cowley. The owner arrived to put the horses away.

July 30: 11:54 a.m. – A traffic complaint was passed on by the Lovell Police Department regarding a grey Jeep Wrangler unable to maintain a lane of travel. Information was shared with the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

11:57 a.m. – A caller reported a motorcycle vs. semi crash just west of Lovell, but when deputies arrived, no crash could be found.

5:24 p.m. – A caller reported a white car speeding through Byron heading east, but it turned off the highway before deputies could arrive.

5:39 p.m. – An apparent abandoned vehicle was reported east of Lovell in the borrow ditch at the turnoff to Five Springs, having been at the same spot since Sunday. A deputy placed an impound sticker on the vehicle.

9:15 p.m. – Deputies were unable to locate a red Tahoe without headlights on after a caller said the vehicle almost ran him off the road heading toward Cowley just northwest of the Oasis Junction.

July 31: 12:38 a.m. -- The highway patrol aired a notice of a Ford Explorer or Expedition north of Frannie with headlights coming on and off. A deputy made contact, and the driver said the vehicle was experiencing electrical issues.

August 1: 1:27 a.m. – A caller from Cody reported a possibly intoxicated man leaving Cody and heading to Lovell after making threats toward the reporting party. The Powell Police Department spoke to the individual and found him not to be impaired.

9:04 p.m. – A caller reported a verbal domestic dispute at Barry’s Landing. It was determined by responders to indeed be verbal only.

August 2: 9:29 a.m. – A caller from Deaver reported “activity” at a neighbor’s home and said the neighbor also didn’t attend church as usual. A deputy checked, and the woman checked out OK.
