The fiber optics upgrade project being done by local telecommunications provider TCT is just about complete in Cowley, and the work is now moving to Lovell, TCT CEO Richard Wardell announced Tuesday.

Drover Construction of Alaska has started utility locating work in Lovell in preparation for directional boring on Eighth Street on the west end of town.

The first area to be constructed will be along the front of the hill from west to east, about one-fourth of the town. Materials are being staged at the town lot just west of the county annex in Lovell.

“The first construction area will be what we call our Nevada serving area,” Wardell said. “Crews will be starting on the west end and working east below the hill. Some subscriber drops will start as the directional boring crews are locating other utilities prior to boring and placing the main line conduit.

“The first subscriber drop conduit was placed today. Crews are ‘pot holing’ around utilities to identify buried facilities prior to directional boring the main line.”

In Cowley, the construction work is done, Wardell said, and minor cleanup work is being done while fiber slicing takes place.

“So far it’s gone really well in Cowley,” he said.
